... I don't necessarily think this will be an awful year. I think it can still be a lot like last year. We obviously need Izzy back. That's a mandatory piece.

We lost to Chattanooga I think because we overlooked them and it was a road game plus we are shorthanded and Chattanooga played well enough to win.

Tonight, we played a GOOD team on the road who played well. We were shorthanded again. We played no offense in the first hand and no defense in the second half.

I think most of us prepared for an average year after losing Simmons and then Russell and DeShields having to sit a year but then it looked early on like we might bypass that and have a better year but after the last two games, it's looking more like average.

This has been our pattern under Warlick. Embarrassing first half offense, fall behind by 10, then play better on offense in the second half but our defense is terrible and we lose by 10 plus. We should be playing more zone--we simply are not a great man defense team--we might be better than last year, but not by much. Burdick, Massengale, Reynolds are all weak man defenders, for starters.

We still lost the second half too I believe.

That is correct. I turned it off when we were 15 down in the second half. I have seen enough basketball to know when I am wasting my time.

Heck, I knew going in we were going to lose and before the game I made plans to watch a movie with my wife and kid just after halftime since that is when I thought the game would be far enough out of hand that I wouldn't feel bad turning it off.

Those 3 are so weak in man defense that it's ridiculous.

I did like her interview after the game. She has to get after em. Despite the suckage, we can only get better. Hurry up and heal Jannah and Izzy.

Right now, we are the fourth or fifth best school in the Sec. SC,TXAM, Kentucky, Tenn, MSU and GA on our heels.

Holly still does not accept full responsibility for what is going on with the Lady Vols. During her interviews she seems to fend off responsibility by blaming the players. Holly you should "get after em" every day in practice and during the game. She has to do things differently or we will get the same results. Yes I know the ladies game is more competitive than when Pat first started but that is no excuse for ineffective coaching and playing. If Holly can't handle the heat, she needs to get out the coaching kitchen. Whatever you do Holly learn how to and when to call a timeout.:birgits_giggle:

Not having Izzy was a huge factor. The LVs had no answer for Texas's 6-5 center and no one who could make her work (and pick up fouls) on defense. Graves is better working in tandem with Izzy, where she can clean up misses and play off the double teams that opponents have to use on Izzy. Having said that, Holly was right on the defensive lapse. This should be a good defensive team but they just don't get low and move quick enough (with exception of Carter). I agree that failing goes on the coaches but there needs to be more buy in from the players. If you don't defend, you don't play.

In the interview I heard her say that they just aren't that good right now overall and she takes the blame for that. She is holding the players accountable for not getting in a defensive stance, but I do think she is taking blame herself for the overall bad play. She even said "it looks right now like Tennessee is a poorly coached team", her exact words.

We basically suck....I'm still a fan, but we suck.

In the first half against Texas, truer words have never been spoken.

In the grander scheme, this team was never nearly as good as their preseason ranking nor as good as some thought they were based on the 50 pt. thrashings of Winthrop, etc.

On the other hand, they have talent and I am confident they will start to play better and compete for an SEC title. Can they get past the sweet 16, to me that is the question. They have a lot of work to do

Massengale, 2-8, 1-5, 4 fouls, 0 assist, 3 turns, in 40 minutes

At UConn she sits and would be replaced in the lineup.

Warlick is right about needing to get the defense in order. After the Stanford loss where UConn couldn't guard a damp towel, Auriemma was emphasizing the same "get in your stance." But she is wrong when she says that is all she cares about fixing right now. Balance and team is what's needed.

One thing that I have seen mentioned on other boards but not really discussed here was the lack of assists - a long standing problem with UT. Assists show team play, ball movement and control. Only 3 assists in a game shows nothing but individuals chucking.
