-1996, One non-conference loss early in the season. An undefeated run in the SEC. Entered the conference tournament and lost to an underdog in the Championship game, in New Orleans as the No. 1 team. You know the rest of the story.

-The last time Vanderbilt won the SEC Championship was in 1951. They beat a one-loss Kentucky team which won the National Championship weeks later.

-Floyd Mayweather, who never loses, put down 100K on the CATS last week to win it all.

Any Gamblers gonna roll the dice on the stars aligning?

Kentucky winning the title with loads of NBA talent wouldn't exactly be the stars aligning.

I'm picking Ky. They may get beat, but I think this loss will refocus them. It didn't seem that they played with much fire at the SEC tourney this week. Barely squeaking by LSU, Fla and then getting beat by a Candy team that seemed hungrier.

When you're 16-0 in the SEC and have only lost once total, you have to do things to self motivate you. I'm surprised it didn't happen at least once to a young team for the most part. We'll see what happens going forward, but I think the first two games of the tourney will give us some idea if Cal has gotten their attention again.

Do you all not have a UK forum to post this **** on? No one besides the 5 UK fans cares about your team. Its fine to like a different team but damn take this to a UK forum.

2009-Ty Lawson misses ACC Tournament with toe injury. UNC upset in ACC Semifinals, still gets a #1 seed, wins National Championship.

2005-Rashad McCants misses last four regular season games with an intestinal disorder, but does return to lineup for ACC Tournament. UNC gets upset in ACC semifinals, still gets a #1 seed, wins National Championship.

1993-Derrick Phelps gets hurt in ACC Semifinal, misses championship game. UNC upset in ACC Championship, still gets a #1 seed, wins National Championship in New Orleans.

2011-John Henson gets hurt in ACC Quarterfinal, misses rest of ACC Tournament. UNC gets upset in ACC Championship, still gets #1 seed........

And if I read correctly, Mayweather lost a bunch on money on Duke/UNC last week.

I understand this is an Around the NCAA forum. But still, do you not have UK friends to talk to or forums to post this on? Most UT fans dont really care about the similarities between the 96 UK and 12 UK teams.

Sorry, I'm just not seeing it this year. Strickland being out hurts more than it looks and the killer instinct just doesn't seem to be there.

Strickland being out won't by why they don't win. Granted, he would help by being available, but he's not an outside threat. Bullock has capably filled the defensive role that Strickland filled.

Consistent outside shooting and toughness/killer instinct (or lack thereof) will be their undoing.

And if Henson can't return effectively, all the above is moot.

I'm not sure you do, or what the concept of it really means.

UK got the best draw that they have had in years. Lack of depth and the fact that Marquis Teague hasn't developed like Cal's previous guards is keeping this team from being elite.

96 Cats would beat this team by double digits, FWIW.

There's no way they make it from the S16 all the way through the F4 without Davis getting in foul trouble. And the first time he does, they lose.

The '51 Cats. Now, that was a dirty era. Their best player was banned by the NBA for what he did at UK.

I agree. Their depth and Pitinos press, this years squad would be run into the floor in the second half.

No doubt. Luckily with this fan base it's a "what have you done for me lately" world.

It seems far less likely that the best college players of today would be tempted by gamblers, given the dollars that are around the corner for them, but you never know.
