Did Climer nail it?

Kind of odd to me they still sub like they are playing a pressing style. Not sure why they don't shorten the rotations?

Climer is basically repeating what Bruce said a couple days ago

I like CBP but I don't understand his total abandonment of his pressing style- if nothing else- use it as a change of tempo when the 2nd team comes in relief. It's not like they are offensive juggernauts and it might scare up some transition baskets and wear out shorter benches. That will hopefully create some energy to fuel better play from the 1st squad.
I am TIRED of hearing that he doesn't have the athletes. We have more talent on our bench than has existed since...maybe ever. If you can't shoot well, go Mike Anderson, press and get layups.
CBP has the athletes, like Climer says, except I think it is on CBP for not changing the conditions to fit the bench. A deep bench playing only playing 1/2 court offense only contributes to getting players out of rythym.

I don't disagree with a bit of this. However, I guess I just believe that Bruce doesn't think his current team can be successful with the previous style of play. Then again, they aren't that successful now, so why not try it?

I remember the thing that was so exciting to me about Tennessee basketball was how difficult they made it for the other team to inbound the ball. We would get a turnover or force a team to use a timeout just to try to get the ball in bounds. Commentators talked about it all the time. I can't remember seeing us do that this year at all.

but does that come back to not recruiting the right players or not having the players/expertise to implement a new style? You have to pick and find players who can play the style you choose. I think he may have been lucky in his first few years that he had a versatile team and vocal leaders.

Pressuring sideline inbounds plays is the one thing that they are still doing well, and this has been pointed out in several of the nationally televised games.

This is what I was wondering too. If we play half court offense, then we dont need that big of a rotation.

I never quite understood why CBP recruited himself out of pressing. I don't think he meant to, at leastI hope not. He thought he would do the same thing with bigger players with more length so his style would be deadly. But smaller usually seems faster in the first 2 steps of defense I guess? And I guess nothing works well if you can't shoot.

The answer is a big "NO". Having to read & listen to this clown in Nashville for years, his journalistic style is sarcasm, sneak attacks & kicking people when they are down. He loves to tear down, never build up.

Wayne Chism was one of the best I've ever seen at disturbing the inbounds. If you ever had the pleasure of being courtside while he was on the inbounds... It was a sight to behold. He counted at double speed and was screaming 5! 5! 5! at about the 3 second mark and opponents tried to force it in at this point soooo many times. He was as vocal and as active defending the inbounds as anyone I have ever seen. We miss Wayne and JP more than anyone thought we would...

on a good note , nobody can run the shot clock down and get nothing out of it like tn can.
BP went away from what made him good and thats pressing and he is paying for it.Most of our players are too clumsy to press.

If you can't shoot then running and gunning is not good basketball. I have seen UT several times this year have 3 on 1 in fastbreak and we end up with turnovers. Our guys cannot play that style.

Will someone please send in the team that beat Villanova and Pitt. Did the NCAA kidnap that team? Where's the offense, defense, and hustle? From what I hear about the recent practices if they're not going to play that style BB then I guess Bruce is going to work their tails off, so be it. Steven Pearl may be a role player but he's been giving it his all and lots better than most of the players.

After watching those game I felt we were going to scorch the SEC. Then the bottom dropped out. It is sad when you have walk on players who can compete for minutes and win. I thought Pearl was a motivator.
