Players get gifts from the sponsors at bowl games. One of my best friends was on the team at Tennessee for five years. He used to tell me that they would hope for different bowls because of the gifts they'd get.

If they did, what is the big deal. It is common for swag such as that to be provided to the players at bowl time. The bigger the bowl, the better the swag. I think some bowl gave PS3's away and another X-box 360s. It's really no big deal.

they're allowed to receive something like $600 or $700 worth of gifts from the sponsors. Maybe it's even more now, but it's pretty remarkable. And I also don't think it's fair market value for the gifts. I think it's wholesale price, which means there's a good chance the players were getting 26" tvs.

Wow, not to slam your friend, but if I were a player I'd have been hoping for a National Championship game every year.

Wow I had no idea they could get gifts and such from bowl games. Seems like the coaches could use that as a recruiting tool if they are in a bowl every year.

This was when they'd be up for like either the Outback, Peach, or Capital One bowls. He'd say that one of them was giving so and so this year, so he was hoping for that one. He was a second string kicker who only got in once for a single PAT in his career. He had to find aspects of the program other than football to entertain himself.

Some of the bowl gifts are real stinkers, but a few have given away Wii's back when they first came out (as in impossible to find), Best Buy shopping spree's up to like $500, TVs, iPods, and so on.
