Stats are kind of fun to look at.
Here's one that I get a chuckle out of:
Phil Fulmer against top 10 teams at home: 5-9
Phil Fulmer against top 10 teams at home since 2000: 1-6
Until beating Cal at home 2 weeks ago, Fulmer had not beaten a top 10 team at home since the turn of the century. I wonder if he can make it 2 in a row after such a long dry spell?
Pretty selective in making your point, isn't it? Here are a few more to "chuckle" about...
Fulmer has won 77.6% of his games as UT head coach since 1992 over 167 games (130-37). That's still the
best among active coaches in the land. And interestingly, in all but one of those 37 losses, the other team cheated, lol...just kidding. (Numerous sites)
Tennessee maintains its standing as the winningest team in the SEC over the last 10 years in terms of victories and percentage (including a couple of ambitious fellows named Meyer and Spurrier). The Vols are 95-30 during that span for a percentage of .760, ranking them fifth nationally in percentage and sixth in wins. (The Sporting News)
UT has twelve first-round NFL selections since 1993 and a total of 64 players selected in the draft since 1996 to
lead all schools in the nation. (UT sports.com)
Now, I concede that none of this means diddly on Saturday, but based on these stats, I think anyone should feel a little on the silly side to call Phillip Fulmer's record - in any capacity - into question.
Go Vols!
