Of 55,000 hurt our chances at a future Chick Fil A kickoff game? I was scanning over future games for the next couple of years and saw the attendance numbers for past games. Past games not including us had at least 70,000. Your thoughts?

I'm not sure on this, but I think it was more of NC State's fault than our's. I was thinking we sold our allotment.

Although I wasn't aware the attendance was that low. Doesn't sound right.

No, UT sold out its allotment and bought plenty of the NCSU tickets. I wouldn't count on the Wolfpack ever being invited back, though.

This year you've got Ole Miss vs Boise State on Friday and Bama vs West Virginia on Saturday. Next year you've got Auburn vs Louisville

UT had a good crowd for that game, but there were quite a few empty seats throughout the stadium.

Just look at our past 6 season's records. That will tell you all you need to know.

Maybe in 2017.

That makes no sense. In the one Chick-Fil-A kickoff game UT played we sold out our allotment and then some and won soundly over an 8-5 ACC squad. Plus being invited in 2012 goes against your theory of them not inviting us now because of our record over the past few years.

Forget tickets sold. If you recall, the game was relegated to ESPN U. The network is looking for ratings. Right now, with UT's current situation, they aren't that big of a ratings draw.

When was UT invited to play in that 2012 game? It was probably in 2009 or 2010.

We did our job as far as attendance in that game, esp since they moved it to a Friday night after they (ESPN) assured the SEC they wouldn't schedule any Friday night games....we were also invited after a losing season. No one worries about attendance or ratings when it comes to Tennessee. We have one of the largest fan bases & most loyal fans of anyone & always draw a good TV rating. Just think how great it'll be in a few years when we are winning!

That's why I said 2017.

2015 is already set, and in 2016 we have that "little" game in Bristol. That will beat the pants off of any Chick-fil-A game.

you guys are insane.. yes espn is looking for ratings.. and despite our record, we have some of the best rating numbers out there for games we play in..

UT sold their allotment and baught some of NCst tickets.. and the TV numbers were some of the best out there..

When we played UNC in the MCB, it was the fourth highest rated bowl... beaten out only by the big 3 BCS bowls..

you guys should really get your facts together before you start talking about our ratings... vol fans show up no matter what, be it on site or over the air waves.

I believe it was the highest ratings ever for a college football game on ESPNU, iirc

It was on ESPNU because of a bigger game was on at the same time on ESPN. It's the 1st games of the year. Ratings are gonna be good because anyone who likes football will be watching regardless of who's playing.

How soon were you hoping to see UT back in that game? I'm pretty sure your OOC schedule for the next few years is already spoken for.

I think since they went to 2 games a year for the CFA kickoff, it is going to be hard for them to sell out the Friday night game. Friday night college games usually have poor attendance. Ole Miss and Boise will have a tough time this year. I think Nashville should create a kickoff game to compete and maybe take away 1 of the games in Atlanta. Then you would have 3 great games(Atlanta, Dallas and Nashville) and all on Saturday as it should be.
