With Houston losing to TX state I thought I'd ask some Sumlin fans their thoughts. Is this all the new coaches fault? Obviously he's the one with the loss but did Sumlin leave him a great team?

Probably a mixture of both, you'd think they'd have had some depth prepared on offense.

That said, you can't hesitate to leave a lower division team after a good season, because things can do to crap quickly, and your stock then drops considerably.

I think the new coach fired the OC after the game. 1 and done. As in 1 game.

Had it been Sumlin's OC or his own? I just wondered for guys that like and think he would have been better than DD what their take would be on a loss like that right out of the gate. Figured some would say it's because Sumlin was what made them or some to say maybe he was riding a couple good players and got out just in time.

Sumlin only maintained what Briles built. Simple. Everything briles left is gone now. Briles is the coach all should be after. He's the program builder not sumlin. Briles did wonders with Houston before he left for Baylor and now he's done the same at Baylor. Baylor was/is the Vandy of the big 12. Glad to see the Fightin Baptist finally playing well.

Spot on. Sumlin did at UoH what Fran did at TCU. Pat Sullivan did the heavy lifting in Ft Worth and Fran waltzed in and reaped the rewards.

Sumlin took his OC Kliff Kingsbury (a former Mike Leach QB) to aTm with him.

I guess we'll see how Sumlin plays out expecially this week with a weak gator team. He's got the resources at ATM to continue his rise if he really is as good as described by some.

we'll see how good a program Briles has built now that RG3 is gone.

I just read up about Briles based on these responses. Certainly he seems to have a knack for building up a program. He's also had some pretty good QB affiliations. Also I believe the former QB turned OC you mention would have been connected to Briles as well despite him now being with Sumlin at ATM. Of course Leach has ties to both so you could call that the real tree.

My only interest is how Sumlin's name is tossed around a lot as a preferred up and comer. There's a lot of Good coaches that get lucky breaks or inherit good situations very few truly great ones.

The new Big East teams are looking strong so far, with the addition of power houses like SDSU and SMU, they will be just fine.

The first I paid note to Sumlin was Slocum's last year at aTm. RC brought him in to install the passing game. By mid-season it was clicking and they upset #1 OU. At that time they had the #1 recruiting national class set to sign but agy had to agy. Slocum got canned, recruits were MIA and Sumlin moved to Norman.
