Didn't HART say?...

he does have SEC experience. Pretty sure he coached in Neyland once and that's good enough for Hart

Hart said a lot of things. The only thing I want to hear him say now is, "I'm resigning."

Hart deserves to be fired today. He bungled this process from the beginning, articulated criteria for our new coach and failed to deliver on that express promise, may have ignored interested and dynamic candidates (Pelini and Roman), etc. Hamilton, with the Lane Kiffin hire, got a better coach and staff than Hart has done. This is inexcusable.

Yeah I agree. Step down and get someone with Tennessee ties. This is ridiculous. Get ready for more mediocre football guys

In case you haven't noticed, today (December 7) is also the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. We can only hope that the hire of Butch Jones does not also turn out to be "A day that will live in infamy", to quote Franklin Roosevelt.

We need to all realize that Tennessee is no longer an elite football power. We are more a Cincinnati level program today than an Alabama or Florida level program. If this week doesn't pound that into our heads, nothing will. Sad but true.

Mods please delete this thread. No way these two things parallel each other in any way. December 7, 1941 was one of the worst days in US history. I love the Vols but there is so much more to life than UT football.

Alabama sucked for years but were able to hire a good coach when they decided to get serious about it.

We have not been down as long as Bama was. So I'm calling BS on your post. We haven't fallen that far, yet.

But, we are about to get three to five more years of getting our asses handed to us by Bama, UGA, UF, LSU and USC. That is a given. Whether we can beat the Ole Miss's, UK's, MSU's and Vandy's will determine Jone's fate.

Auburn and Arkansas hired better than we did. Not necessarily in coaching ability. But definately in coaching styles. Arkansas nailed it! Power running game, great defense. Arkansas will be relevant very quickly. Auburn will need a few years of recruiting. But they will be back. We are in danger of falling to the bottom, to stay.

You contradict yourself. You call BS to my post and then explain why we will fall just as I noted. Have another cup of coffee, I think you need it. If we haven't fallen already, explain why we couldn't drag in someone like Strong from UL? That speaks volumns about where we are vs. where many think we are.

I agree with some of your point, I think. TN is elite. Unfortunately we are trying to mimic elite schools cheaply which is actually downgrading us from being elite. Hart kept none of his criteria when hiring this coach. I really want to hear what Hart says about this hire.

I was willing to wait unlike many as long as we got the right coach. I have no confidence in an administration that says one thing & does another. I, like many hope Coach Jones works out. But I am starting to believe what is being reported about our administration. Disbelief & Disappointed. VFL, Go Vols.

Posters on this forum are the only people on planet Earth that thinks this UT job is an elite job.

I hate it people, but its not. Amount of money you have at your disposal does not make you elite. Wins and losses do.

Well the Administration has taken this attitude.. The fans can only do so much.. They'll show how much they appreciate this Administration in ticket sales next year..

Not a bad attitude. I support this university. But like an alcoholic who needs to recover, the first step is being honest with yourself and look honestly at yourself in the mirror. You have to admit you have a problem before you can fix it. We have a problem with our football program; we need to fix it. We are not the UT football program of the mid and late 90's and early 2000's. If you think that is a bad attitude, so be it. Meanwhile our current teams are sub .500 win percentage. Not elite at all.

He said he "wanted" a guy with SEC experience, but he did not say he would be able to hire one

I think Hart just showed us that we cannot believe a Dam! thing he has to say.

This was another desperation hire from a point of fear that if he kept swinging for the fences he would keep being shot down.
