I think this team has some similarly to the 2022 team, but we need to figure out who the next Hyatt is going to be. The defensive front is better than 2022, but the rest is about the same talent wise. The o-line is solid, not spectacular so Nico will have to make his reads quickly just like Hooker did. I think the running game will be fine and that the scheme will make it work.

Haha, love the way West puts this: "Georgia is a given. Texas is a self-promoter. Alabama is a habit. Ole Miss, blessed with Lane Kiffin, won the transfer portal crown. LSU is a budding power just waiting to bloom. Missouri? Not again."

"Texas is a self-promoter." Absolutely. Just like Notre Dame, they bump themselves up a few spots in every ranking system just by talking about how great they are.

"Alabama is a habit." Absolutely. Folks won't stop ranking Bama high until Saban's memory fades a bit. Will Debohr prop them back up? Too early to tell. Right now, they're living on borrowed Nick time.

"Missouri? Not again." Lol, absolutely.

He said it just right, concerning those three teams.

Go Vols!

Eh…
It’s definitely catchy if not valid completely.

Except Missouri did very well in the transfer portal.
And they return Cook and Luther Burden.

2022 UT beats 2023 Mizzou imo.

What will both teams be in 2024? Close to that hypothetical matchup I think, but Missouri is getting their feet under them with Coach Drink.

They have a tough schedule! We’ll see but I think they will have another good year.

Linebacker two-deep is head and shoulders above ‘22. The secondary may prove to be as well. If (big if) we can find a competent left guard, the offensive line may be slightly better as well.

Just FYI, Missouri doesn't have a tough schedule. One of the easiest in the SEC. If they don't have a really good season, it's not due to the schedule.

Disagree. I think we're way better than the 2022 team. That was a genuinely surprise season. If we're ranked #1 this year when the first playoff rankings come out it won't be a surprise. It should be expected.

Scheduling is the most important, individual, issue that will determine mediocre from good to very good records. Any team with Florida’s schedule would be hard pressed to go 10-2 and a pretty good team might go 4-8
This new SEC (and big 10 to a degree) schedules will have to go to an eventual round robin every other year, or else a team may benefit too much from their draw. This year Fl got killed while Ole Miss did pretty well.

westwords Mr. West sums it up Perfectly! What a writer! westwords Click & Enjoy VFL's!
Marvin West is a true sports writer. He know the game, the personnel, the fans, the traditions. Love how he began his column: Georgia is a given. Texas is a self-promoter. Alabama is a habit. Ole Miss, blessed with Lane Kiffin, won the transfer portal crown. LSU is a budding power just waiting to bloom. Missouri? Not again.

Don't care what anybody says. Just want our Vols to be the bull in the SEC and NCS China shop.

O line won't match 22. Big 58 and 76 locked down the right side. Darnell didn't allow a single sack all season and he battled some pretty nasty dudes. Nico will be able to camouflage most of it tho. Watching the Iowa bowl game showed he had the intangibles

Yes and how about this line----"Renowned sportswriters and broadcasters, giants in the field" That's funny right there. I missed the sarcasm on the first read. West is the best.

2022 season was possible with Hendon Hooker's generational season.
Nico has to rise to the occasion. He has the correct coach, now he has to just do it.

Darnell Wright was a Generational Player. The last UT Olineman in that category (If my memory serves me correctly) was Chad Clifton. The one good thing Cornbread did was to get Darnell Wright. AND Hype kept him at UT, during the mass exodus.

No Georgia, Texas, Ole Miss, LSU, or UT. Oklahoma at home. Four non-conference games are cupcakes. How is that tough?

I agree and I believe Squirrel can be the next Hyatt. He may not break the single season receiving record but he definitely can get to 1k. Brazzell is probably my dark horse. Just feels like that kid will have big yards per catch numbers.

"O line won't match 22."
We'll have to see about that. As good as Darnell was, he was not part of the '23 OL when we led the SEC in rushing, and he was only 1/5 of the '22 line, while Cooper M and Spraggins were 2/5 of it. Heard and Campbell should be better than '22's Mincy n Crawford. We have other vets who are stronger than ever, and some young 4stars ready to contribute. We'll just have to see.

Missouri’s non-con is a cakewalk, but they do play Bama, OK, and TAM. They could easily lose two of those. Their last three games are against weaker teams, but are on the road, setting them up for an upset.
I won’t be happy if we finish 7th but winning 6 conference games will be a challenge. It’s certainly doable, but we will have to bring it Saturday.

I don't know who did the new SEC scheduling, but some teams got blessed and some got hosed.

Yeah it looks like they play a lot of soft games.
I thought they were playing UGA and Texas. I guess I was looking at another schedule

We gave a couple of. freshmen who will complete for -laying time. We will see a lot more of WRs playing this Fall. Fresh legs and hands to wear down the opponents DB. We will put a lot of points on the board . Defense will also get the ball back for more offensive plays than in past years.
