On Monday, Hughes explained Tennessee’s recruiting process at the Knoxville Quarterback Club. Hughes, who joined Jeremy Pruitt’s staff after a four-year stint at Florida in the same role, said Tennessee has specific traits it wants at each position. The staff is “incredibly organized,” he said, and the staff has meetings periodically to discuss needs and desires.

The process with a prospect starts with film evaluation from a player’s junior year or earlier. The Vols don’t rely on highlights but instead watch game tape. They clip plays from it and consistently update a player’s information. “We have a rule where we watch film against their three best opponents they faced,” Hughes said. “We want to see as many good one-on-one matchups and how that guy functions in a game. The film doesn’t lie.”

Tennessee football recruiting chief reveals Vols' long process to sign players

“I really just wanted to give you guys a glimpse of what we’re doing. I do feel good about the direction that recruiting is going. We’re excited. We anticipate signing the majority of our class in December. The ones that don’t sign, we have a plan to continue to recruit those guys in January. And I can assure you guys that you have the right guy (Jeremy Pruitt). You have the right staff. We love where we’re at. And I’m going to tell you, we’re going to have a football team that everybody in the room and in the state of Tennessee and all over the country and the world that love Tennessee, they’re going to be proud of it. A team that you guys can get behind and relate to."

And some on here thought they just put a list of high school player's names in a hat and drew them out randomly to offer. They must be crestfallen. :(

It's a shame with such an organized system that big Jay Hardy fell through the cracks. It's crazy that we forgot to stay in touch.

That guy pretty much has my dream job. I'm excited about where this program is headed. It's going to be fun to watch.
I enjoyed meeting the guy at the QB club. You can tell the guy is pretty much one of the best in the business at his job. I know Pruitt and Hughes have a history at Alabama and it’s amazing Pruitt can attract all these top guys... but great for us.
