WatchESPN (ESPN3) requires your ISP to subscribe to its service. If you have comcast, or verizon, or uVerse, or any major internet provider, you should have the ability to log in to WatchESPN.

Else, you just need to find a relative/friend with one of the supported ISPs and beg them for their online login info.

So basically a no go with direct TV and Hughes net

Nope, sorry, Hughesnet didn't make the list of supported ISPs.

I live in a rural area, and our only ISP option is Metrocast, which also didn't make the list.

However, my mother lives in a place that gets AT&T u-verse, and I'm able to watch all the WatchESPN content using her login. Like I said previously, if you have a friend or relative that has one of the supported ISPs, all you need is their login info.

Step one:
Dump Direct TV for Dish.
Not sure after that.

Are you drunk? Beyond being the only way to get NFL Sunday Ticket I have been a subscriber for over 15 years and it is so much better than dish. Dish routinely has terrible customer service ratings. You would have to pry away my DirecTV from my cold dead hands! :p

Loved Directv when I had it. Switched to Dish because of German programming. Having said that, customer service was the same on both sides. Hit and miss.

Ditto. I've had DirecTV for 17 years and best service going; not switching--ever. I pay probably too much but service and programming has got to be the best. I do ESPN GAMEPLAN every year so that's extra but usually get almost all of the good games.

Fyi on direct tv. My 12 month discount expired so I called to see what I could do. Made my way to "retention". Explained that I would leave again at the end of my contract and they reduced my bill by 20 bucks a month and gave me all the movie channels for 2 months. Bill went from 108 to 88. Not bad for 30 minutes of bs.

I've heard similar stories about Comcast; one friend did this and Comcast lowered his bill by about $15 a month and gave him more sports channels.

To the OP, I'm in the same boat. I had Comcast cable and AT&T internet for years and could use WatchESPN for either with a login, but I moved and now I'm DirectTV and I don't get it. There used to be a workaround if you kept your old AT&T/Bellsouth email account, which I did, but they closed that loop.

From what I understand, DirectTV's contract with ESPN doesn't expire until 2015 so I would guess then they would probably negotiate adding WatchESPN access.
