So, I'm about to come up on my 1-year anniversary with DirecTV (my first experience with either of the dish providers), so my promotional rate will expire. I've read where it's pretty unlikely that I can get them to extend the promotional rate (or any portion thereof) beyond that first year, but wanted to put it out there to you fine folks!

Any suggestions on how I can keep all, or part of, my promotional rate?

:hi:

Be prepared to open up your wallet...........preferably to buy out your contract and go with Directv now, vue, or sling. JMO

They were always super good about giving credits whenever I called to complain about how high the prices were. There seemed to always be some kind of discount they could provide. There is hope out there.

I actually got a pretty good discount back in Sept. after my promotional year ran out. I talked to Retention ( pretty sure the phrase was "contract end date" on the automated system - "cancel service" would probably work) and told them I needed to cut my bill. I wound up getting NFL Sunday Ticket free plus about $30 a month off for six months on my programming. I'll have to pay the full price the last six months or drop some channels but I was pretty happy.

In my experience, regular customer service won't give you any discounts, get to a retention specialist. Then just be honest and tell them you'd like to cut your bill. They've always worked with me. Been with Directv about 17 years minus one year with Dish, hence the new contract.

So couldn't find another thread to post this and didn't want to start another one.

Spent about an hour last night on DirecTV's Chat talking with rep about my DVR that's apparently gone bad. It erased everything I had saved on it the other night while I was gone and now it freezes for a couple of seconds every few minutes while watching something.

I've had it going on eight years (I think) and the rep told me after rebooting it several times (which I knew wouldn't help, Like I never thought to do that?) that he put in a replacement order.

My question is has anyone had a replacement receiver sent to them and how long does it usually take for them to get around to doing it?
