Disappointed with d-line play today....

McCarron has the potential to be a starter in the NFL. I could see him as the franchise QB for a few different teams.

Arizona Cardinals
Oakland Raiders
Cleveland Browns
Jacksonville Jaguars
New York Giants
Minnesota Vikings

I hesitated to put the Giants on that list but it wouldn't shock me at all if the Giants drafted a QB this year to sit behind Eli Manning and learn their offense. That's assuming that they still have the same offense since I am pretty sure Coughlin is getting fired after this year.

I can live with our offense struggling, but out D I thought was so much improved....looked like last years D in the first half.

McCarron will get as far as the other Alabama QBs that benefited from having a great run game. Oh wait didn't the Jets cut one and keep Matt Sims over him? Lol

I realize that Bama hasn't produced a truly good NFL quality QB since Namath. They are still better than USC though.

Seriously, the Trojans are notorious for producing absolutely crappy QB's LOL

Defense was a passive punching bag. No penetration, no attacking, no disruption behind the LOS. No blitzes. None. Guess they were concerned about big plays but gave them up anyway. Wish they'd do whatever it took to get some pressure.

Complete agreement. But it does tell me what I'd thought all along...Butch is our new Fulmer. He'll get us up where Fulmer had us, and he'll have some of the same flaws. (Every coach has some kind of flaws; just saying his will look more like Fulmer's than, say, Les Miles'.) He stuck with his philosophy that you have to win your one on one battles on the line. Frank Beamer/Bud Foster would've been blitzing and jumping routes, trying to pick off that flanker screen, doing anything to knock McCarron on his butt. Not complaining, though; we'll have the players to play it Butch's way soon.

Frank Beamer sucks. He just got out coached by Coach Cut. Bama would of taken advantage of over-aggressiveness. Yesterday was a loss on any dimension.

Nope. Beamer's defense picked off 4 passes and gave up only 13 points. VT molested Cutcliffe's offense. Beamer's problem is his QB is the most inconsistent one in the entire country. (It's his own fault for not recruiting a better one, but still...)

And, Bama would take advantage of that over-aggressiveness by scoring, what, 35 first half points? Much better to be passive, give up the 35 and get no turnovers to help out the offense, eh?

Disappointed with the defensive gameplan overall. I really don't see the difference in playing press coverage and getting beat over the top, versus just slow bleeding to death like it was.

Pretty much rushed only 4 all day because our back 7 completely blew. Tough to get pressure on McCarron that way.

Cut both ways IMO. A huge part of the reason the DBs blew is because there was absolutely none, zip/zero/nada pressure on McCarron. How many times did he shuffle around in and out of the pocket for 5, 6, 7 seconds to throw? 7, 8 times maybe.

Our only chance to win yesterday vs their O was to put pressure on AJ... they didn't even begin to come close.

Press coverage? You must be joking. The first TD came from a screen pass and our CBs were 7 yards off the line of scrimmage. I've seen so much bashing on the commentators for the game yesterday on here, but they said all along that if our OLBs didn't make plays we would be in serious trouble. There's no excuse in a cover 2 nickel package to allow a screen pass to go for 50+ yards. There's also new excuse to allow runs to go 6 yards at a time on the outside. Big Dan fills the middle very well most the time but it's up to Brewer and Sapp to hit those gaps and make tackles.

Most of the d-lines that have played against their O-line this season have come away disappointed.

Jancek coached scared yesterday. It's that simple. You can have all the playmakers you want on defense, but if you play-call so timid you are destined to lose. I'm not a defensive coord., but I do understand packages and defensive schemes, and when you pass rush 4 guys you better be one heck of a gap disciplined team or you are going to get lit up. You can't man up on the outside when you don't apply pressure and think everything will be ok, just as you stated above. Jancek wants to be a man up team, and for the most part that's the way to go, but he's also brought pressure the last few games, and then yesterday he decides it'd be a great idea to sit back in coverage and hope everyone makes the right play. Our Nickel CB position is calling for anyone to come in and play, and we desperately need a SLB who can blitz/cover/and tackle aka Maggit.

Where was AJ Johnson usual enthusiasm. I agree the defense looked like they were just going through the motions. Very slow.
