I have a friend who is a Wake grad and he claims that Wake is the smallest in this division, but I think it is not, I think they are like third or so on the list. I am trying to find a list of the schools based on size in this Division. Anyone know anything?

i'm assuming you only mean in football and according to wiki (so take with a grain of salt) you are right. They are third:

This made Wake Forest the smallest school to ever compete in the Bowl Championship Series. Of all schools that play Division I FBS football, only Rice and Tulsa have smaller undergraduate enrollments, and Wake has the smallest undergraduate enrollment of any school in the BCS conferences.

Hmmm. I was thinking Wofford(sp?) was smaller as well. Thanks.

no problem... not a lot goin on this morning and I was bored. Never hurts to keep sharp on my research abilities, even though normally I can't rely on wiki

Wake - 4,321
Tulsa - 2,987
Rice - 2,995
Air Force Academy - 4,000
West Point (Army) - 4,000
Naval Academy - 4,000
(These are all created by legislation)

Others of note are:
Tulane - 6,449
Duke - 6,197

Thanks to the Academies, Wake gets bumped from 3 to 6. :)

They are, but they are 1-AA.

Ooops, Guess they are. So much for my search, can't even find a site with correct info!

I'd rather look stupid right here than when I'm trying to prove my friend wrong. :eek:lol:

I went to each D-1A school site that I thought the school might have low enrollment (usually a private university, 2 of my searches included Boston College and Vandy) and looked at their "About" page to get the undergrad enrollment. :)

thanks rwemyss. The thought of going that route entered my mind, but when Wiki gave me an answer I decided to go nowhere near it. You must work hard at your job.....

I'm actually in Palm Springs, CA packing to fly back to Nashville. :) I check out of the hotel here in about 30, and land in Nashville at 7:15 ct.

So I'm not busy at all right now. :)
Plus, I was curious. There may be a couple of others out there... Wyoming and Idaho are ones I would consider just because of the low populations in their states. I checked Hawaii, and it was actually pretty high. I can't think of any others I would expect to have that low enrollment though.

Just D-1 Football? B/C Hartwick College is D-1 in the MAC conference for Men's Soccer, and they only have 1,480 students, total.

Just football. Lots of schools play 1A in Hockey and baseball, but nothing else... those don't count for the discussion.

haha.. i like how you are taking one for volwindy rwemyss. I know i don't want to start looking at enrollment numbers for every D1 basketball, baseball, softball, lacrosse, hockey, etc. school across the country either though....
