DMB - Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King

I listened to it last week off their stream. Well, a lot of it. Seemed ok. I wasn't terribly thrilled with anything first time through.

I have grown to somewhat like Funny after hearing it a bunch on the radio. Alligator Pie is solid. That's the other that stood out first time through. I'm not the biggest fan of his slower songs but I like the acoustic guitar showing up more here, again.

Definitely better, IMO, than the last few albums. It's meant to be listened to as a whole, without one or two songs that just "jump out at you." Seems to serve as a eulogy to LeRoi?

Nice to hear Tim with some time showcasing his guitar mastery. Also, the percussion and bass grooves are the best of the band's career.

Will make a second pass tomorrow...

I think it's pretty good so far. Only heard it all once since it came out while I was still overseas. Like the CD alot so far.

Really liking "funny the way it is". The song has grown on me in a way that I'm starting to appreciate it in the same way as Busted Stuff's "You never know"

I thought the same thing....I think it's a good album, but it takes me a while to warm up.

it really sucks it took losing a founding member of the band for them to start making good music again.

they was a 3 hour show on Fuse live from the Beacon on Monday night. Reynolds and (more importantly) Jeff Coffin add so much more to the band. Dave should have ditched Butch Taylor and picked up those two YEARS ago. and i know Tim has played with the band in the past, but not on full tours.

I watched it on fuse the other night, Coffin was insane, just still getting used to not seeing leroi. As for the new album, not a fan, but then again I am only a fan of the live albums over the studio ones.

I prefer the live ones as well....DMB is pretty much a jam band now anyway.

Everyday was a little too poppy for me. I did really like "So Right" on that album though.
This one is growing on me already. I like,
"Shake Me Like a Monkey"
"Funny the Way it Is"
"Why I Am"
"Alligator Pie"
"Time Bomb"
even "You and Me" is doin it for me.

antsmarching.org: Dave Matthews Band - Big Whiskey Debuts at Number One

Late news, but since no one posted it, the album debuted at number 1 according to Billboard.com, selling 424,000 copies first week. Apparently makes fifth consecutive album for the band to debut at 1. And article says DMB now matches Metallica for most consecutive chart-topping album debuts all time.

Also, they made a video for "Funny the Way It Is"...kinda a weird video

also pretty cool how the video for "Funny the Way It Is" was just one straight shot. No cuts or anything.
