like the idea of coming in and being able to start immediately or do they really just want to play with a winning team. How many times have I heard that recruits are just looking for the opportunity to go to an SEC team and be able to start from day one.

Well this year that question is going to be settled. Tennessee Vols are advertising for several opening immediately

Most recruits only think of themselves. I think the first thing they think about is playing time

As Hole in the Roof indicates above, there is no general rule, playing time, location, conference, tradition, contending for championships in the immediate future, educational opportunities, systems, their relative importantance varies from individual to individual.

From what I have seen Momma plays a big role. Make Momma feel like you are the coaching staff that will take care of her son and you got something (other than that kid that picked Florida lol).

I would venture to say that most kids just want to play football, so I think they do take it into account.

If you've ever coached or had a kid play you can tell most of the time mom has the most influence on a higher percentage of kids. Just from memory probably about 70% mom 20% dad 10 % kid make the decision. Now sometime the kids get their way talk mom into what they want. IMO

Why do these drive-by posters act like we lost last night?

Was telling my wife about the Albert Means situation at Alabama after watching them pretty much dismantle LSU. Won't drag on about it, the info is out there if anyone is interested. After 'bama got scholarship limitations and probation, they used a different approach instead of blatant disregard for NCAA rules. When 'bama wants a kid, the boosters send them birthday cards with money inside, and of course, no name from who sent it and no return address. Can you imagine how much money these kids are getting to sign with 'bama, or any other school for that matter? Are we doing this too?

We had the #5 recruiting class in the nation in 2014 following four consecutive losing seasons. If a coaching staff can convince recruits they know what they're doing, the team's current record isn't as important.

As some have indicated, some recruits will want the sure thing and will be drawn to teams like Alabama and Clemson, but others will be drawn to the idea of building something new plus the early playing time.

My sales pitch would be the following.

They see they can come in and play as a freshman. They get 3 years to start and get coaching which churns out NFL players. They are legends for turning a once proud program back around. They will get equal pay (or a little more) to what Alabama, Clemson, UGA, and OSU are offering.

I think in most cases now they are willing to sit on the bench if the school is a pipeline to the NFL like Bama vs 5 years ago where they wanted playing time. This change has allowed Bama, LSU, UGA, UF to suck up most of the 5 star talent that normally would have been spread around the league. Big disparity between the top teams and the bottom teams now.

I thought this would be the most opportune moment to ask this question. For years I have read the message boards that a recruits biggest desire was to go to a school in the SEC where he could come in and make an immediate impact . Now I am coming to a much different conclusion. I think you present probably the winning points in the eyes of a recruit. That the truth is that they would not mind riding the bench for a year if they know they get to be with a team who produces NFL draft prospect like a hen lays her eggs. A coach of caliber can convince them pretty easily that its in their best interest by pointing to the NFL ranks. We on the other hand need to keep our best in-state talent at home

As a general they matter a lot for everyone else, but the ones that pick UT not so much.

The best reqruits are the one's that have confedence in there ability and work ethic that the know they will play anywhere so they go to Bama Georgia and the others. 5 star and down endup were they want

Well do you want to play out of the gate at Tennessee/Kentucky or go to Alabama/Georgia and wait 2-3 seasons to get any meaningful playing time.

I think 10-15 years ago that was true, but after watching Alabama stack 5 stars like cordwood for the last 10 years i don’t think it is any longer. I think this generation grew up seeing Lebron jumping from team to team and trying to form super teams so they do the same thing. It’s nauseating honestly.
