It seems everyone on here is clamoring for some retread coach, be it Butch Davis or Tuberville or Petrino or Tressel or Cutcliffe or whoever. I was just curious, when is the last time something like this worked out? When was the last time a head coach was fired from a school in a major conference (because of losses or NCAA trouble or a scandal of some sort) and resurfaced at another school in a major conference and won championships? I can't think of any.

John Fox is doing ok at Denver

Petrino is akin to Calipari, little different

There has to be ONE fired coach that won a championship somewhere else though. Right?

The only one that I can think of that was remotely successful was Dennis Erickson when he was at Oregon State.

EDIT:AirVol just beat me to it.

I'm dyslexic...does the thread title say "do retards ever work out?"

This is a great question. I'm having trouble coming up with one.

Has to be fired, right?

Yeah. Has to be that the school no longer wanted him (for whatever reason), not the other way around.

The reason I ask is because I'm a big believer in learning from history. People get blinded by all sorts of "intangibles" and anecdotal evidence as to why they think some guy will be successful, but usually simple statistics are more reliable.

Wait, which college fired Erickson?

And he didn't win a conference championship at Oregon State, did he?
