Do we have to beat gators twice?

Seems odd to make it to that round without losing then going back to single elmination but whatever. I guess you have to make some concessions in a 12 team tournament.
JW said they used to have double elimination but the coaches voted to change it to avoid wearing out pitching staffs on the next to the last day (in the event a "double header" was needed).

I wish it were single elimination like the softball tournament, personally.

You get a day off today for not losing, which is more than fair, IMO. Double elimination just presents an opportunity where a team like Florida might have to play 7 games in 6 days which would literally deplete a pitching staff right before regionals.

Without double-elim, we'd have been home after the first Bama game

I'm not talking about "that" double-elimination. I'm talking about extending it past Wednesday-Friday to include weekend games. Let's say it was Florida and Bama playing today and not us, tomorrow would have been their 5th game in 5 days and to win the whole thing they'd have to play 7 in 6. That's too much for any pitching staff.

Looks like the gators and the vols both got a day off today.

I have mixed feelings. I get it. Keep winning and you play fewer games. Lose and you have to play at least one more to get to the same spot. Still, once you are to that spot, it’s lose and you are out which completely disregards the fact the team that hasn’t lost did more to get to that same spot. In this case, I don’t see it as too unfair because we won the series against Florida, and well, this scenario benefits us. Still; our particular scenario is happenstance and while I like that it benefits us, it would be unfair to any winners’ bracket team that had not lost the reg series to their semi finals opponent.

So how is the word series is it one and done? That seems a little harsh for a baseball game the way these things play out.
