Do we miss Jenny Moshak?

i wish we could, but considering UT forced her out and the discrimination litigation that resulted, it could never happen.

The most telling incident regarding our present training staff, in my opinion, occurred about three or four games ago. Basharra Graves came out of the game limping badly and in obvious pain. Dean Lockwood had to get the trainer, who was sitting on the bench not doing anything else other than watching the game, and tell her to check Basharra!

That never would have happened on Jenny Moshak's watch!

I've been wondering this also
Every team has injuries. We have always had injuries, but it seemed like players got back on the court quicker with J. Moshak.
Just speculating.

We seem to be a lot more cautious about letting players back on the court now.

The past two years we have had a player miss pretty much the entire season with a concussion. I can never remember that happening over the course of decades before now. And there is no telling how long Jasmine will be out this year.

I know concussions are currently a hot topic and people are changing how they are treated, but other teams do not seem to have this problem so it makes me wonder if our protocol for returning from injuries is more rigid.

On the plus side we seem to have far fewer ACL's than in the past. It seemed like we had at least one of those a year for a long, long time.

Izzy tore her ACL just last season so I am not sure "far fewer than in the past" is really accurate.

The LVs have not actually had that many ACL tears-- a lot of times it seems that their recruits incur that injury while in HS and then it lingers on. But Izzy, Vicki Baugh (tragically twice), Syd Spencer, Loree Moore are the main ones I can recall from the last 10 years.

Whenever a program is on a downward spiral, sometimes fans will go searching for reasons aside from what is just obvious. Remember how well the 2001 team played after losing Tamika Catchings (at least until the tourney)? They beat UConn despite Taurasi having a great game against us as always. We miss Pat Head Summitt. That is all.

No. The legend of Moshak the miracle worker was greatly exaggerated when she was here and even more so since she left....

This is true. And I thought Mason was just awful. Our conditioning improved markedly the next year after she was gone.

Okay, I will bite. Let't throw out the miracle worker because she like any other trainer is bound by the laws of physiology. But, you seem to be implying that she was not an elite trainer and that the replacement is doing just as well. I am not sure that comparison actually holds up.

Wasn't really fishing, but the injury situation is no different now than if Moshak was here. Jones wouldn't have gotten her head clobbered in a game? Nared wouldn't have broken her hand in practice? Would they be magically playing now if Moshak was here? Sadly, I think some actually buy into her hype and believe it.

To answer the OP, no we don't miss her...

We miss having a very good coach. Summitt had her time, and now it's time to find a dynamic coach who can lead the program going forward. I would argue pretty strongly that PS coached too long. Does the Penn State football program miss Joe Paterno? Some, maybe many Pa. State diehards would say yes--even though he clearly coached about 10-15 years longer than he should have and that once great program has been somewhere between mediocre and bad for 20 years.

I don't think Moshak was in possession of some secret knowledge that no one else has. Most of what is involved in the job consists of pushing the players through rehab. Bones and concussions heal at their own pace and what limited things you can do to help those types of injuries are well known.

What has changed is that in the past a player with a concussion would return much more quickly. I don't hold that for or against Moshak, but it just goes to show that we have improved in certain areas since she was here as our knowledge has advanced.

Wasn't it Holly who let Moshak and Mason go anyway? Seems like I remember that at least in Mason's case it was her decision. And these new people are certainly her hires.

Warlick and Pensky wrote letters requesting Mason be replaced.

Moshak filed the discrimination suit against the University after being let go but I don't remember Holly being involved.

Didn't Mason file a suit as well? Otherwise, your memory is about the same as mine. I don't know if it was ever made public whether Holly had any hand in Moshak's firing. It is not unusual for a new coach to clean house and get her own people in when she takes over so it would not surprise me either way.
