Some call it the sophomore jinx.... but not at Tennessee...

Peyton Manning was 89-of-144 for 1,141 yards and 11 touchdowns during his freshman season....... the Vols finished 8-4...... and then 244-of-380 for 2,954 yards and 22 touchdowns during his sophomore season. The 64% completion percentage his 2nd year was his best in 4 seasons. The Vols finished 11-1 after beating #4 Ohio State and heisman winner Eddie George in the Citrus Bowl, 20-14. The Vols finished the season ranked #2 in the coaches' poll and #3 in the AP poll.

Casey Clausen was 121-of-194 for 1,473 yards and 15 touchdowns during his freshman season..... the Vols finished 8-4.... and then 227-of-354 for 2,969 yards and 22 touchdowns during his sophomore season. The 64% completion percentage matched his best season (and Peyton Manning's). The Vols finished 11-2 after beating #17 Michigan in the Citrus Bowl, 45-17. The Vols were poised to play in the National Title game against #1 Miami, but were upset by LSU in the SECCG. The Vols finished the season ranked #4 in both polls.

Erik Ainge was 109-of-198 for 1,452 yards and 17 touchdowns during his freshman season....... sophomore season .... wait and see?

Let's see. At the rate we were going this year, Tennessee could very well make a BCS bowl. Perhaps Sugar Bowl? :D
