Dobbs only 5 of 12

Which doesn't mean alot if you don't complete passes. I am all for him but this is well over played by now...

IIRC, he ran it once for good yardage then a time or two more for nada.

Better than I expected honestly. I have been excited about him since he signed but thought his arm looked a little understrength from his HS highlights.

Very unlikely his arm is stronger at this point. But he did throw it well. I didn't see any drops. I did see him try to fit it in to closely covered receivers. Some of those were plays where the receiver has to protect the ball with his body and then come to the ball and snatch it. Both he and Worley lost receptions because Bama defenders were able to play the ball through them.

This proves my point from earlier in the day that you are absolutely delusional

I agree he would've been around 8-12 if it wasn't for drops. One time he threw a lazer and hit the receiver directly between the numbers and he dropped it. The announcer even said man he hit him straight between the numbers.

I saw something I really liked today. Dobbs stepped back and after a few seconds it was obvious that everyone was smothered in the secondary. Worley would've thrown it away or kept holding it until pressured. Dobbs saw that nothing was there and took off and got some yards. He kept it and made some good reads in the option. He rolled out and made a nice pass on the run. He just adds so much more to the offense that Worley can't offer.

I agree. My thoughts are Worley has been there for a few years and he still has Freshmen in contention of taking the QB spot from him. It is obvious he lacks in ability otherwise we would not be discussing this at this point.

I am going to sound like everyone else now, put the man that can get it done in. Our goal now is to make a bowl, I feel that is absolutely crucial now with the recruits we have coming in, (hopefully!!)

He led to 2 scoring drives, kept our defense off the field, and scored more than the average points Alabubba allows (in one half). Did you expect him to score 45 and play defense?

That was when Alabama already took their foot off the gas and were playing second stringers.

I just didn't see anything from Dobbs that made me think he was going to be any different than Worley. Absolutely nothing.

I could be wrong, but so far I'm not impressed.

I thought he looked much better than that???

This changes my opinion a bit....but whoever starts the next game, I trust Butch to make the right choice.
Uh, were you watching? If our receivers had played even moderately well he would have been 8 of 12 for 200+ and a score or two.....and that's without the good things that may have happened had they hauled those in. That doesn't even speak to his movement.

Yeah...you're only like the 100th person to say that. Might want to try reading the rest of the thread. :hi:

I did see the drops...even factoring them in, my impression was that his stats would be better. And BTW...one of the "drops" was thrown behind the WR and is on him as much as the WR. So I would say 7/12, but that's a nit.

What I will say is that SUBJECTIVELY he looked great. The ball was thrown with confidence, authority, great velocity (maybe too great in a couple cases) and for the most part accuracy.

He sure LOOKED good...so good I expected the stats to be better EVEN WITH THE DROPS.

But don't get me wrong...this is not a shot at Dobbs. I will actually be pleased to see him start.

It is a caution though...we have only seen him for a half. I intend to wait for the sample size is larger, preferably much larger, before I say "yeah, he's the QB of the future".

I heard CBJ say that Dobbs has a photographic memory so they don't believe they would have to scale back the playbook if he starts Saturday, and it's looking like this is going to happen.

People talk about how FSU's QB, Winston, a true freshman, is a big exception to the rule (that freshman need a year at least to acclimate to the college-level environment). Well, Dobbs is also an exceptional individual, too. He has the ability to grasp concepts and make decisions, quickly. During the summer, he was interviewed and mentioned that he had the playbook down. That's something that would take the average D1 QB nearly a full season to digest.

He will get better as he grows, but even now, I think he's well ahead of where the typical true Freshman would be.

His arm looked pretty live. He had nice zip on the ball. I was impressed with him coming in and doing what he did. I was hoping Worley would hang in and we would not have a QB controversy but Dobbs looks like a quality player.

Dobbs is a great fit for this offense. Not only does he throw the ball better than Worely, but he makes the read option a viable threat which opens up our offense even more.

Winston redshirted last year.
