i think its up there because they are the only big time school that is not in a conference...and there has to be a contract somewhere too.

Notre Dame is like the spoiled only child in a rich family...they get whatever they want, but they aren't good at anything...

Correct. Notre Dame has a contract with the BCS that guarantees them an invitation if they finish high enough in the BCS standings. I want to say it's top ten, but i'm not 100% on that.

It's kinda smart on their part though. If they go to a bowl game (BCS or not) they keep all the money. Every other school splits the money with the conference. why join the Big 10 and never get anything when you can suck ass but still get paid.

When did the Mountain West, Sun Belt, WAC, Mac, and C-USA become BCS Conferences?

Technically they are not, but... if a team in that conf finishes in the top 6 or 8 (BCS) Then they must be included in a game as an at large See Utah this year and Bosie State previously.

ND is a joke, living off of some long gone years of prestige. Why not include Harvard, they were dominate in the early 1900's. You could technically have two undef. SEC teams in the SEC champ, but if a ND team is in the top 10 of the bcs, and a non-bcs school is in the top 6/8 the loser of the SEC champ wouldn't be eligble for an at large, GRRRRR- Bring on the playoff!!!
