I don't know what it is. It's something unidentifiable. You hear it about players all the time. They just have that "it" factor about them. I actually believe Martin has that. It just seems like, to me, there's something about him that just shows me he will succeed at Tennessee. I know his first year wasn't great (although it was good). I know he only has one elite recruit right now. But I'm a firm believer he's going to lead UT to unprecedented heights in basketball. If I were a betting man, I would bet Coach Martin is going to lead UT to their first Final Four. I'm not saying if you don't believe that you are wrong. It's just my personal opinion he is going to be a star in the business and is going to do great things here. He just has "it". Whatever the hell it is. At least to me.

How do you feel VN basketball fans? Does he have that "it" factor or am I just crazy?

I totaly agree. When he was first hired, I was very unsure until I heard him speak. I knew from that point that he is a baller and he could reach great talent. I love Bruce Pearl, but I think that Martin will show us that he is a definite upgrade.

I always have believed "it" is the that thing that separates you from the pack and makes you better than everyone else. Coach Martin seems to have it.

This is one thing I'm not sure of. This season well answer a lot of questions. We can at least consider that the players speak highly of his character, personality, ethics, and sense of humor.

Upgrade? Respectfully disagree. BP was born to coach at UT. Screwed that up. Although lacking in some areas, had the wow factor in spades; in terms of getting people involved and fired up. Ray Mears reincarnated. Look at the talent Pearl brought in. Not since Ernie & Bernie had we seen the likes of that. CM will be successful, but the enthusiasm doesn't compare. Pearl was primarily a showman, in the entertainment business.

Would much rather have a great coach with integrity than a showman, jmo. Also, as long as the players see the enthusiasm, I could care less if I ever do.

Thanks for the laugh tonight. I needed it.

Not a problem; homie. I understand. What you got is better than what someone else has. I know the type.

Hey, if you wanna believe Pearl was a better coach because of his "enthusiasm" than that's your opinion. It's wrong, but still.

I remember that I was at my son's apartment the night it was announced that Martin was the new head coach of U.T.
Wow! Everyone was freaking out and saying that we ended up with a small college no body coach. We all just knew that the basketball program would return to the Buzz Peterson & Wade Houston days.
I have to admit, he sure made us all believers in less than 18 months of being on the job.
Have we forgotten Bruce Pearl yet? Will coach Martin eventually make us forget Bruce Pearl???

Agree with you that alot will be answered this year. If we make the dance, win a game or 2, and land a top 15 class, then IMO CCM has what it takes to take this program to heights its never seen.

OCI-the only "live" Saint I ever saw was at a ski resort and his last name was "Bernard". The "it" factor of CMartin was displayed @ his acceptance speech as coach of the year @ MizzState. Its on UTube, Hell of a man and even better coach IMO.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. CM and the Vols over achieved his first year at UT. Yes the SEC is not the toughest conference in the country but CM still surpassed the so called experts' expectations last year and beat some pretty good teams. This year, will he continue to put the Vols back on the map? I don't know. Only time will tell. I think it's too early to say he'll coach in a final four anytime soon because of the competitive nature of NCAA basketball. If he lands several top recruits over the next two or three years, watch out.

I think we are getting ahead of ourselves.....to claim Martin is a better coach than Pearl at this point is ridiculous. Coach Pearl won a division two national championship...led wisconsin-Milwaukee on a NCAA tounament run....and led us to our first elite eight and number one ranking to go with six straight NCAA tournaments.

Coach Martin has never even made his first NCAA tournament....Alot of his praise is based off of perception....Most people thought we were going to be bad and we were much better than some predicted....This yr with pretty much the same team, most think we are going to make the tournament and possibly the sweet sixteen or better.

Like Mike Tomlin stated when asked about the NFL, he said it was the show me league and I feel like Martin needs to show us he can win at a high level and recruit at high level before we start proclaiming him as this great coach. I am glad we hired him and feel we made the right choice. Go Vols and Go Cuonzo!!!

Well said. The anti-Pearl crowd mostly wants to forget that era ever existed, and what better way to expedite that process than by convincing yourself in your own mind that his replacement is destined for greatness in spite of the mess left in Pearl's wake.

Pearl was good for Tennessee basketball at a time when Tennessee basketball needed something good. He was one of only a handful of people in the coaching profession who could have lit the spark in a moribund fanbase that was needed to make our program relevant. If that were his only accomplishment, we are better for it and the product is much better to watch as a result.

Will CCM be better? That's a subjective question and his resume is really too incomplete to answer right now. I hope he is, because that would take Tennessee basketball to heights unreached and I think everyone, those who supported Pearl and those who didn't, can agree on that.

Coach Martin has the 'it factor' where it counts.
With the kids.
He'll prove it this season.
