"We're pretty deep on the defensive line," said Bailey. "I think this year we can probably roll out three groups of D-linemen that can actually go out there and play and make things happen. It's great competition there. But you thrive on competition -- that's what makes you better. So it's nothing that you shy away from."

"I wouldn't say that there is one player," said Herring when asked who has been standing out during practice. "I would say there is one position group though. The D-line just has a bunch of freaks on there. It's crazy, And the LEOs (pass rushers) they are freaks of nature. You got Caleb (Herring), you got James (Peace Jr.), you got Roman (Harrison), you got Josh (Josephs), and Chandavian (Bradley). They are just specimens out there. The whole D-line is just so good at their craft, and they each just have their own style of play. So it's just great to go out there and see them play."

Could someone name the DL from a depth standpoint. I'm really struggling to name multiple DT's

DTs: Thomas, Garland, Norman-Lott, Simmons, and Eason. I can only think of five DTs. Pretty Sure Bailey and West are going to be lining up as SDEs. It would have been nice if Dajon Terry was still on the team. The defensive coaches may use undersized DEs at the DT position on passing downs. Hopefully the team is injury free with the interior line.

We’ve touched on how the interior of the defensive line is a little thin already this camp but haven’t touched on how deep Tennessee is at strongside defensive end. Tyler Baron and Dominic Bailey both led the team in snaps at the spot a season ago and are back. The Vols also have talented underclassmen Tyre West, Tyree Weathersby and Daevin Hobbs trying to break into the rotation at that spot.

Behind Roman Harrison, Tennessee’s LEO competition is fierce too with sophomores Josh Josephs and James Pearce Jr. as well as freshman Caleb Herring looking to make an impact at that spot.

Former Tennessee defensive end and new analyst Robert Ayers Jr. was working with the ends and LEOs during today’s open portion of practice.

At 290 pounds thought Hobbs was going to be more of a DT. I know he’s a hoss And I’m glad he’s a Vol.

That doesn't look like a deep group at that position. Hopefully guys show up and prove me wrong

I remember one Coach a few years ago that, when asked about his depth at DT, he replied “I’ve got a pair and a spare…” I know a kid named Jordan was be of them. They played A LOT of snaps. This is a hell of a lot better situation now.

These guys do a reasonably good job. Obviously they can't be perfectly up to date with 130 teams but helpful if you're just looking for general info and particularly this time of the year/season.

2023 Tennessee Volunteers Football Depth Chart | Ourlads.com
Did anyone happen to notice this depth chart shows 10 senior starters on offense and 10 seniors on defense!? Incredible! If Joe, (hardly senior experience) has a big year, this could be another very successful season for this team. Can’t wait to watch it play out! Go Vols!!

I remember when we had a walk-on playing against FL in the Dooley era iirc. I remember rerun watching plays and the Gator OLs appeared to be being nice to the guy, because he was so overmatched. We've come a looong way baby.

Kourott Garland, Dominic Bailey, Omar Norman-Lott, Daevin Hobbs, Tyre West, Tyree Wheathersby, Omari Thomas, Bryson Eason,Elijah Simmons. That's a pretty deep group of DT'S without even mentioning the ends. I didn't believe we had depth at this position but I see now we do.

Hobbs will ultimately end up inside. He may play some outside early. I think West is another who will play some inside as he career moves on. West is around 290, Bailey is around 280-285 and another one that is capable of playing inside some as well. GBO

They have :
5 year guys like Garland, Harrison, Simmons
4 year guys like Thomas, Eason, Barron
3 year guys like Dom Bailey, Omar Norman Lott

That's 8 veteran grown men, to handle offensive lines.
We were one of the top run defenses last season and should continue to be that and more.
Because of the 2nd year pass rushers, we're going to cause turnovers and get sacks.

This defense is going to be lights out!
