Donovan vs. Beckham

I rather enjoyed this article. It almost gives an introspective into the mind of Landon Donovan as David Beckham arrived and started playing for the LA Galaxy.

Oh, and Donovan's assertions are most likely, completely correct.

That was interesting. The part about the coaching change was interesting. I knew Lalas was unhappy after that ordeal, but I never could figure out the reason

Do you guys think anyone would actually participate with an MLS thread?
I follow the Columbus Crew, but that's about it.
Just wondering what you thought about that idea.

I don't really watch MLS ball all that much, but my favorite team when I do watch is Columbus, but Seattle is growing on me.

I love Seattle. I like the way they play, I like their average joe roster, and I love the fan support they get.

Panthro, I don't see enough interest for one right now. The reason I say that is that in the confederation cup threads its really only 5 or 6 people that post. I'd post all the time and get my post count way up thoughv:) I'd love for there to be a soccer type forum though

Donovan isn't regarded as anything outside of the USA, Beckham is one of the players of the last decade and a half..Becks could not turn up to training and only play a half and i'd still take him over Donovan...try playing in a real league before you run your mouth.

And im not even a beckham fan

Didn't Donovan play for Bayer Leverkusen(sp?) in the Bundesliga? Didn't he also play there for an appreciable number of years as well?

Not sayin, but just sayin.

EDIT: Ok, he didn't play in all that many games, but did play for the club for 4 years.

Where you play has nothing to do with how you conduct yourself as a teammate. Players in the MLS take their games just as serious as players in the EPL.

he was there for 4 years but i believe he played in 7 games - 0 goals - before being loaned back to the MLS...not a very successful stint

As for where you have played etc. i think as Beckham has played at the top end of the sport he knows a bit better than Donovan what is needed to be the best, one piece that stood out to me is when Donovan didn't like the fact that Beckham didn't call out the coach when the coach critized LD..sorry but in what sport in the world are players supposed to call out their coach infront of the whole team? if anything they are supposed to do the exact opposite.
Alot of this appears to me as LD having sour grapes over Beckham not being the same captain he is. And Beckham is not a bad captain he leads by example not words and tha tis best shown when he was Captain of England for years and one of our best.

I follow mostly the US national team and their players. I like watching their careers overseas especially since I dont have a favorite in all the European Leagues.
