Don't get excited by one game

Climer is, has, and always will be an idiot. I especially enjoyed his outlook on the OSU-Texas game. Who, in the Big XII, will challenge Texas this year? OU? No. Colorado? No. The Horns have a free ride to the Big XII Championship game against Nebraska. If they beat OSU, they will be heading into that game as the #1 team in the country and they will be undefeated.

He may be right about Cal. The difference is this. Last year, we couldn't move the ball against the weakest of defenses. This year our offense is definitely better, regardless of how good Cal's D is. Also, our D looks to be on par with last year. Thus, I think it's safe to say we are significantly better than in 2005. We may not be in late 90's form, but I think you can at least expect us to be formidable foes in the SEC again.

Geez, let us, as fans, celebrate it at least until Thursday before coming out with the wet blanket.

I have never seen UT play as solidly as they did on Saturday. I think we had 1 holding call and that was our only offensive penalty. Also, throughout the 90s we played to our opponents level. We came out against Cal and would have put up 50 or more points had our 1st team stayed in the whole game. We might have put up around 70 had our DBs hung on to the ball a little more.

After last season and this horribly slow off-season, I think we all deserve to be overly excited, even if it is only for a week or two. Climer can bite me.

Taken from the UT website. This is amazing.

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]18 POINTS ALLOWED ... BUT DON'T BE DECEIVED
It would be easy for those who didn't watch Tennessee's season-opening 35-18 victory over ninth-ranked California to overlook the dominance displayed by the rejuvenated Volunteers. But a closer inspection of the game's statistics reveals that the Golden Bears' second-half point production was largely cosmetic.

In fact, 229 of Cal's 336 total offensive yards (68.2 percent) came after the 8:32 mark in the third quarter, when UT backup tailback Montario Hardesty scored to give the Vols a commanding 35-0 lead. Only after building a five-touchdown lead did UT surrender: 42 of Cal's 64 net rushing yards (65.6 percent); 187 of Cal's 272 passing yards (68.8 percent); and nine of Cal's 20 pass completions (45 percent).

We can beat up on Pac-10 teams and independents all year, and we still wont get respect until we beat a top notch SEC team. Yall knew this was coming. When Florida leaves K-ville in 2 weeks with that deer in the headlights look on their face. Then all the "experts" will be sucking down the Tennessee kool aid. Until then :finger3:

I agree Teach!.......Climer is the one that drove UT into the ground last year, you know how they say, kicking em while they're down!

What is funny is that only one writer from the Tennesean even picked us to win. Then we win and do we get praise, NO. Just more bad attitude.

The team did this to themselves last year and it will take some key SEC victories to get respect back.

I think Climer is a Bama fan anyway. What can u expect??

We can destroy the 'Maters, and there'll still be these devil's advocate sports writers out there talkin' about how we were handed a "weak" Florida team. Remember '98? "There's no way UT wins the SEC title game." "There's no way UT beats FSU." It was is and always will be this way for UT in the eyes of these guys. But here's the nice part as Big Orange Fans...Who the **** cares!!!!!!!!! Go Vols!

Further, I believe that Cal's first scoring drive was the first time they crossed mid-field since the opening play of the game!

I was also impressed with how disciplined and sharp we played. It was a nice change of pace from last year. Let's keep it up.

Next victim...Air Force.

Go Vols!!!

I noticed the guys were at the line with double digits on the play clock almost every play.

The editorial part of the Tennessean sports page does seem to have become more and more antagonstic towards the Vols since the Preds and Titans came to town.

Myth: David Climer is a knowledgable sportswriter.

Reality: To quote an old friend of mine (not Lee Corso), "You can't make chicken salad out of chicken crap." End quote. Climer would rather bad-mouth the Vols than do just about anything else. His hypercritical "glass is half empty" approach to virtually every sentence of his commentary on almost every team speaks of a personality that is long on vocabulary and short on character. It makes me wonder if maybe ole Phil didn't give David a nasty wedgie way back in the past.

Tennessee was a double digit favorite against Mississippi State in the '98 SEC title game. Exactly which experts were picking UT to lose that one?
