Don't Get Too Excited With the Assists Numbers Tonight.

Carolina essentially played zone the entire game, and a very, very bad one at that. First, we've actually not been that bad against the zone as of late. Remember that we destroyed Auburn's zone. What I'm waiting to see is if we can execute when a team plays the sluffing man-to-man that has killed us in the half-court. Then, we won't be able to enter the ball from 35 feet to the block with no resistance as we were able to tonight. So, be glad that we won, but don't look at this game as an indicator that we've fixed the half-court offense problems.

the cocks D was noticeably atrocious. good point. goins did make a noticeable effort to pass first, shoot second. so at least he didn't shoot us out of a win.

Goins did a much better job in ball distribution, but the lack of defense by SC was a major contributor to the assist numbers. I don't think Goins is suddenly going to become a great assist point guard, regardless of the type of defense we face. I was very unhappy with the effort and offensive production. Still too many turnovers, many unforced. We should have been ahead by 20 at halftime, but, again, had to hold on for the win against a very poor opponent.

No argument, but in the past he made no real effort at ball distribution. At least he did show effort at trying to improve in this area. The SC defense made it easy for it to appear that there was improvement.

Still 6 assists for Goins is really good the thing that bothered me was that he had 5 turnovers in his attempt to distribute more

if he gets 10 assist and takes only 3 shots or he has 1 assist and goes 1-11 someone is not going to be happy.
