New law in Arizona states 'pregnancy begins two weeks before conception' - National Lifestyle | Examiner.com

“The law defines pregnancy in a way that bans abortion two weeks before the other seven states who have similar laws. It calculates gestational age starting with the first day of the last menstrual period rather than the date of conception

Huh? Does this mean you have had an abortion if you don't conceive, since the "pregnancy" was terminated?

In all seriousness, I get what they are doing...

The current law will allow abortions to be performed up until the time that the fetus could “reasonably survive outside the womb”. This is around 22 to 24 weeks.

...having an abortion at 24 weeks is crazy. But come on, this seems like silly science.

There has to be a better way to handle the issue than making laws like this. I do think as a country we are moving towards a recognition that life is defined prior to birth and that later term abortions don't make sense except in health of the mother.

I agree. How about a fed law that says abortions are ok for first trimester: No abortions last trimester (except mother's health): States pass their own laws for middle trimester?

As long as life isn't defined at conception with personhood rights as dictated by Paul Ryan. Mike Huckabee, Todd Akin, and others.

My goodness... this is obviously a clever/political tactic aimed at stopping all abortions. Is the tactic underhanded and slick? Obviously. But you obviously have to understand that these guys know good and well that life doesn't start before conception. Just because they are being politically disingenuous, that doesn't mean we all have to be. Anybody with any common sense knows this is cheap political stunt, not a reflection of what they really believe.
