Sure, Butch Jones is not a household name in CFB coaching. However, lets look at where some of the other top SEC coaches came from

Mark Richt- Coordinator at FSU
Muschamp- Coordinator at TX
Mullen- Coordinator at FL
Franklin-Coordinator at Maryland
Freeze- HC from small college

Outside of Saban and Spurrier, no other SEC program made a "home run" hire. Miles was an average coach at best from OK St.

Am I excited about Butch Jones? Not really, but he IS our coach and I will support him 100% until he proves that he can't get the job done. He may turn out to be the next Saban, Kelly or Spurrier. Lets give the guy a chance to show what he can do, realizing that Dooley left him a mess, just like Kiffin did for Dooley. Lets at least give Jones 3 years to see if he can clean up the cluster that we have right now.

I'm with you. I hope he can succeed here.

The dude has been a head coach for 6 years, won his conference 4 times, and finished second once.

At least he is a winner! We couldn't say that about the past 2 coaches ( Dooley and Kiffin). If anything, Jones is an upgrade over those 2.

...Vol fans are sounding exactly how Tampa Bay Buc fans were when the Glazers hired Greg Schiano to replace Raheem Morris. Nobody really wanted or even knew that much about him other than he took a dismal Rutgers program and built it into a winner and was the coach of Ray Rice...

Schiano has proven all the naysayers wrong as he has taken the Bucs from a team that lost its last 10 games last year to near playoff contention this year in the NFL.

Jones may not be Schiano, but he has the firebrand to do similar things at Tennessee. He definitely has a winning attitude. Key will be can he recruit, who he hires for his staff and his game management...

Next year's schedule is very tough, but getting to 7-5 is reachable depending on what players stay with the team. I think he can salvage most of the team with his gamesmanship and that he is a winner. If he keeps the offensive coaches together and brings in the DC that is needed to turn the defense around he should be ok for next year.

We will see...but let's give Butch a chance.

The fact everyone is frantically trying to connect any dots that he might succeed is telling enough. The only fact we know is our university spent money on buyouts it can't really afford and spend money on a coach that makes me feel no different about next year.

I agree we should get rid of Jimmy Cheek and maybe even Dave Hart. Phil Fulmer needs to be our AD. I am tired of seeing our Administration continue to throw money away with buyouts ( Pearl, Hamilton, Fulmer , Raleigh and Dooley) have ALL received buyouts in the past 5 years. I'm scared to even add up the total $ amount.

Jones wouldn't have been my first choice but he is the coach now. He has to be better than Dooley. I for one will support him until I see evidence that he can't get it done.
