I never like to lose, and i especially don't like to see Chism throwing up threes in crucial points of the game, but our team played a good game tonight. Purdue is the number 6 team in the country. They had to have a great game to beat us when a few of our crucial scorers were off. We are a whole lot better this year than last. Our defense is much improved, we have some outside shooting now, and instead of playing close with the likes of Chattanooga and other schools of that caliber last year, we are dominating teams that we should. Does anyone really think we should have beaten DePaul and Purdue by 10 or more points? Does anyone really think that CP is a bad coach? If you think either of the above, please don't reply to this thread as your words of wisdom on how CP needs to go cause he just can't get it done will just anger the real VOL basketball fans who are just happy to see a competitive, top 25 basketball team year in and year out.

How about the fact that Pearl has no half-court offense and his teams consistently struggle in end of game situations?

How bout the fact that we have went to 4 straight NCAA tourneys since Pearl has been here, one of the best if not the best streak in SCHOOL HISTORY!!! We wouldn't even give a crap about basketball if it wasn't for Pearl.

They're just mad we lost. Defeat causes people to say things out of anger. If this is the same team as last year we probably lose by ten. Everybody will be happy after we beat College of Charleston.

Chillax.. Purdue is probably the best team we will play in the regular season.. Nobody except Chism really played great. I do admit that it is frustrating to watch our halfcourt offense play hot potato 35 feet from the basket, but when we're flyin up and down the floor nobody can hang with us.. Btw how about tyler's dunk, sportscenter tomorrow

My hats off to Purdue's man vs. man pressure defense...Did anybody else notice Maze never going left when he brought the ball up? It seemed like he just wanted to race the guy right every time...With that said , I believe our guys look the most solid out of any past Pearl teams starting a season. I'll take a 1 point loss to a top 10 team early, because that gives us plenty to work on in practice for March. Unlike football, Bball seasons are more of a marathon. Go Vols!!:hi:

That might not be true with Kansas and Kentucky on our schedule....possibly though

No chance. Purdue has no business in the top 10, and is lucky UT didn't show up with their A game. Either way, this is just the way things go for UT, when they get their shots to fall, they're tough to beat, and when they don't shoot well, like tonight, sometimes it's going to be tough for them to win.

Purdue is a solid team. I can't stand big ten basketball but they play some D and do all the extra things it takes to win. They wont lose more than 3 or 4 games all year

Speak for yourself. I gave a crap about basketball and went to games while Wade Houston was the coach.

If we were still paying Pearl chump change and hadn't poured millions into upgrading the facilities, I'd be fine with still being the plucky little overachievers who are just happy to get into the tournament. That's not the case anymore.

I think Pearl is doing a good job. I knew we would not finish the season undefeated...learn from it and move on.

Pearl's full court offense and defense is solid. The half court offense makes me want to vomit though. He's getting the big bucks, now come on Bruce get something going in the half court

It's been like this for 4 years though.

I cared about the basketball program long before Pearl was here.

Oh, and how about the fact Jerry Green made the NCAA tourny 4 straight times. Some streak, huh?

I don't understand why we don't have any form of offense in the half court. Everyone blames Pearl, but there has to be more to it than that.

I would consider myself a little above the average basketball fan no where near a coach, but with a good guard who can drive like Hopson and a big who can shoot like Chism WHY NOT RUN A PICK AND ROLL when your team is struggling against a man defense?!?!?!??!?!? Why not run Mcbee of screens? I don't understand why we do literally nothing so many possessions.

I've been watching them since why before Houston, and I wish you would tell me one 10 game stretch in the last 30 years that even came close to what CBP has brought to us. You haters are complete idiots. Last year when Mempiss came calling you fools were ready to fire MH if he didn't offer Pearl enough to keep him. Get a life and read some history!

Devoe took UT to 5 straight (when there were fewer teams in it). And there are plenty of people who watched UT before Pearl. I'm not a CBP hater but there are definitely some of his decisions I question

We scored 72 points against a Top 10 team whose identity is based on great defensive play. And that is with our soft guards giving little to no contribution. Yeah it was definitely the offense that lost that game?

And about 10 of those points were from our half-court sets.

Hopson can't drive, he is too scared of contact and a bad ball handler. He can't do anything in traffic yet. I would like to see Tatum try and take over a little bit more. He has looked fantastic this year on offense.

But we really needed to have Chism posted up inside. No one could stop him all game and PU's best inside player was out.

Thats not even close. We scored much more than that in half-court. Am I claiming we are the best half-court offense in the country. Of course not. But our half-court offense was good enough to win that game. We had other problems that cost us much more.
