...this weekend due to UT petitoning the NCAA for more OV due to the coaching change. In short, if we would have used 75% of our OVs we could not petiton the NCAA for more OVs and we would have exceeded that 75% threshold this weekend, therefore no contact. If our petition is accepted, we will gain 14 additional OVs. Please someone who knows the rules please expound. Sounds like Dooley may know the rules unlike...

he's a lawyer...i kinda like that about him...he is going to know how to read and interpret these rules

back to the question...can anyone expand on this original thought?

nah, i'd rather he mention them by name in twitter and on the radio, and falsely accuse other coaches of recruiting violations.

Was he the only one that couldn't meet with recruits? I ask because from what I hear Lance Thompson was meeting with recruits at the BB game yesterday.

This is correct. I believe the recruits met with outgoing coaches (Reaves/Cregg) and some UT athletic department people. If they prevented contact with coach Dooley then we can get awarded extra visits for the next few weeks since the old staff (counting Reaves/Cregg) would have used up 75% of our allotment.

Hubbs tried to explain, but I just don't know the rules and have never heard of this one before (I don't think Hubbs had either). I would love for someone to give a better explaination, but I think the fact that this guy is sharp enough to know this rule and use it speaks volumes about his knowledge of the rules and the importance of recruiting. I cannot find any precedents although they may be plenty ought there.

If you didn't grasp the concept, maybe you could read again? Basically when you have a coaching change (especially a rash / quick one like we did) you can allow any remaining staff members that will be leaving as well, host recruits. This counts against the previous staff, not the incoming one. Thus the new staff can petition and possibly receive additional official visits between now and NSD. Hope this makes it a lil easier to understand. In short CDD is a smart guy, knows the rules very well, which is a great thing!

Actually, even as an opposing fan, I have no problems with this. I believe with a coaching change you should be allowed to have more OV's. I believe the NCAA should look at this rule and include a provision where if your coach leaves you are allowed X amount of additional OV's with your new coach.

depending a lot on how many assisstants stay and leave. if just the coach leaves, but the assisstants stay, it might not be as fair.

If anybody should be granted this request, it would be THE VOLS. I don't think there is a single person in America that doesn't know what dill weed did to us. We should be granted this for sure.

I would change the title from not allowed to chose not to because it was him being intelligent about how recruiting works and what we can do to get more visits

Seems like a smart idea...but isn't it kinda a big deal that the recruits get to talk to the new head coach?
