"The bylaw that's associated with that has to do with publicizing prospects' visits to campus, and that includes painting the rock," said Todd Dooley, the assistant athletic director who leads UT's compliance department

It's a shame there are so many restrictions. I would think seeing your name on the rock and knowing students did that would make them want to go to UT!!

It probably would, which is why it is a violation. Did any of you guys read this before commenting?

But there's one issue for which UT officials say there is no gray area: Any message geared to recruits is an NCAA violation, and the athletic department will do everything in its power to take it down.

It was poorly written, but the qoutes came from when Dooley was coach. Deductive reasoning says CBJ Has not made a "statement" concerning The Rock. Tradition will continue, we'll paint it, recruits will get their pictures taken beside it and someone at UT will paint over it!

It's a vicious cycle, I tell ya!!!

GBO!!

Based on most of the posts on here, it isn't students doing to painting...kinda the point of the rock being on campus it's for students

Pretty sure this issue was brought up this time last year. Nothing changed so why gripe about it.

This prohibition on painting the rock, after "some other SEC schools complained" about the tradition, reeks of Jeremy Foley down at UF. Remember how he got his panties all in a twist and whined to Slive over UT fans rushing the floor in the wake of the Vols' great victory over Donovan's boys a while back?
