I really think Dooley will be great for our program and will have no trouble recruiting. He has ties to Lousiana and has strong connections to HS coaches in that area. As LSU decline, Dooley will be there to pick up talent that is looking to leave the area. Dooley also has ties in Texas and Mississippi and kept Garza who has ties in Texas.

Dooley was a coach at the favorite NFL team of most S. FL kids, the Miami Dolphins. That is a good "in" to have but he needs to find a guy who can also recruit the area.

Most importantly, Dooley has ties to the state most important to UT recruiting....Georgia. His father is a legend in the state and every HS coach in that state will receive CDD well because of that fact. Keeping CLT further strengthens our position in GA.

Lastly, Dooley's time spent under Saban will be further validation in all other areas of the South. I'm happy to have him as our new HC and I do think he will be successful in a classy way.

Dooley's recruiting range is a plus, and I'm confident that he will do very well in his regions, but I still worry about Florida recruiting. Who do we have currently on staff that is strong there? I think this will be a necessary qualification for several of the coaching positions that we are looking to fill.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe we are looking at/hiring assistant coaches from Miami Dolphins AND Tampa Bay Bucks. I think that would cover that area nicely.

That would be exactly what we need, more NFL experience and FL connections. It's just vital that we get that area covered with our remaining hires. GBO

Hopefully we can find someone who can recruit Florida WITHOUT insulting them like he who must not be named

I always figured this is why Gran bolted (amongst other things).

I agree. I think there were many ethical difference between Gran and the old staff. Only so much of that junk that somebody with any convictions can stomach. I believe our current situation is EXTREMELY better and can help develop these young men. Many of these guys come from pretty tough circumstance and really need a high character leader.

If its true that he is bringing in Art Kehoe that will seriously boost our recruiting stock in Florida especially South Florida as if I'm not mistaken he was on some those great Miami staffs when they were "The U"?

Being a La Tech, LSU and UT alum I couldnt be more excited for the future recruiting opportunities of UT.

The way Dooley created strong relationships with North La. High School coaches while Head Coach at La Tech will greatly increase the exposure of UT in N. La.

The most recent person that I can think of that came from N. La. to UT was Robert Peace LB from Ruston. Other then that, nobody I can can remember.

North La. is a hotbed of HS football talent....most recently West Monroe HS was on ESPN doing a year long following of there football season. North La. produced athletes that signed with LSU, Ark, OK, OKst, Ala.....etc. With the UT tradition, facilities and being in the SEC i strongly feel UT can steal a few 4/5 star athletes from N. LA.

There are only a few guys that we are going to be able to pull out of Louisiana per year. Texas also goes into LA and plucks a player or 2. Plus, we've been able to go in there and recruit some guys without major connections to the state (Lucas Taylor, Ahmad Paige, Chris Brown, Jarrod Shaw, Jonathan Wade, Jason Mitchell, Leonard Scott). I just don't see LA connections helping as much as ones in GA, FL, etc.

He has emphasized defense and special teams first. This is the fastest way for us to be competitive! GBO!!!!
