Does anyone else get the sense that Dooley is focusing on two main states for recruiting?

To me it seems as though he is putting a lot of emphasis on Georgia and Texas.

Georgia we all get. It's important and it's a boarder rivalry.

But I love that fact that he is going after Texas instead of Florida. I am sure he won't dismiss Florida entirely as that would be a mistake, but I can't remember the last time we had a coaching staff with so many connections to Texas. I think focusing on Texas is genius.

What really set this off for me is the possibility of hiring Dick Bumpas - the TCU Defensive Coordinator.

What do you guys think? :hi:

Has Bumpas been offered the job?
Texas is just fanatical about h.s. football as Florida smart move.

Still need a Florida connection. There is just too much talent to ignore that state. Hopefully, the RB coach can recruit there.

i think its brilliant. the texas longhorns have had little competition there, especially from SEC schools. theres plenty of big time players in texas that want to play in the SEC

i think we will do great in Lousiana also. Joseph will be huge there

first thing i liked about the dooley hire :
hes coached in Lousiana where he recruited Texas heavily , his name is legendary in Georgia. he played at Virginia and has coached for a NFL team in Florida and now hes the head boss at Tennessee

his experience has him spread all over some key states. Brewer would have been huge to add Mississippi and Oaklahoma

I dont think he will ignore Fl in the future but with such little time this year he is focusing on where his strongest ties are.

I think he's trying to steal Tech and Texas AM players right now and maybe a few Ok and Tx. Just my opinion but we pulled a tech guy and they are in the middle of a makeover like us and they do have a few four stars and yes this sentence is a complete run-on.

Yep. :good!: He's only got 2 more weeks to get the biggest bang for the buck & that seems to be GA & maybe TX.

Sorry, but that is nowhere close to a run-on sentence if judged by some of the posters on VN. You actually used some capitalization and that little dot some people put at the end of a sentence. To address the subject of the post, I think all we need now is a Florida recruiting stud and maybe someone with ties to the West. Don't blast me for this: In his interview, DD said he wanted to talk to Fulmer. I think this is one area where Fulmer can give him some help. Didn't we have some connections at some schools out west (i.e. Coffeyville, KS, etc.) when Fulmer was here?

Leveraging Fulmer's contacts would be huge. He didn't pull those guys from California, Oregon, Texas, Florida, etc. out of thin air. I know he had help from his staff but being in coaching for 35 years helped him develop relationships that would still be beneficial today.

McKenzie wasn't a bad player. He probably shouldn't have come to UT knowing how Chavis routinely made big safeties into undersized LB's.

Sterling could play - used to dominate in practice playing receiver on the scout team offense, just a great athlete. but couldnt keep away from the drugs...dont forget Greg "Booty" Barnum either. transferred and disappeared

BTW, I've been saying that GA and upstate SC are much more important to UT in recruiting than FL.

We really need to be hitting OHIO and Kentucky HARD!!! especially OHIO there are some fine coaches up there that have shaped these boys into great players.

Let's go after Western Samoa for offensive and defensive linemen. Those kids would love an opportunity to get out of a 3rd world nation. The same can be said for Alabama, I suppose
