So I'm perusing an ESPN article when I read a statement that actually made me stop, go back read again before shaking head and rubbing my eyes...the statement was by Arizona AD Greg Byrne (on the hiring of Rich Rodriguez) who said former Florida coach Urban Meyer told hm Rodriguez was "one of the five greatest minds in college football." Yes, you read correctly---ONE OF THE FIVE GREATEST MINDS IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL.
Are you shaking your head and rubbing your eyes too???

I understand it. I'm pretty sure Rich Rod gets credit for creating the zone-read out of the shotgun, and creating a more run-oriented version of the spread offense. Also, I think I read when Urban went to Bowling Green, he spent some time with Rich Rod learning his offense and used this to create his offense. Probably why Urban thinks so much of him.

Rich Rod is a dang good coach. He was destined for failure at MI, he took over a program much like UT, short on talent and soft. He did not have the full support of the fans and administration because he was not a Michigan Man.

He probably is one of the five best offensive minds in the college game. I would challenge anyone to name five that are distinguishably better.

If I could have any coach in the country as OC:

Bobby Petrino
Chip Kelly
Urban Meyer
Rich Rod

I think would be hard to find 5 people better also. If he gets someone who can have an above average defense, he'll be fine.
