Down Goes Argentina

That's all well and good and we're justifiably proud of Coach Pearl, but I wish he were back home at this time of year taking care of the duties of his primary job, which is to see to the care and feeding of all things Vol Basketball. To include holding on to arguably the best point guard he's ever recruited in his entire career. The thing that annoys me most is Pearl's seeming indifference to Selby's decommit. It's not like he can just go out and latch on to an even hotter PG once he gets back home.

Coach Pearl's tweet just sent:

CoachBrucePearl: We beat Argentina today 97-89. USA in the semis with Argentina, Canada and Israel. Couple big days ahead.

whoopity-do-dah. I wish he were recruiting for the Vols instead of this silly thing.

Where have you seen this "indifference" you speak of?
Just curious?

And Selby probably would have decommitted anyways, whether Bruce was here or not.

Money Talks - And Cal and Wes can dish it out like Howie Mandel on Deal or No Deal.

You got a source for this nonsense?

You know those Italian guys, they are all cheaters. Even when it's proven that they aren't.

Nothing has been proven either way. But to pretend Mr Wesley isn't a sketchy factor in the recruitment of players to Calipari's teams and Oregon is just wrong.

It's still idiotic for people to continue to hammer Calipari like he is a known cheater. Also, I am pretty sure Calipari was cleared in the only investigation of which he was a target.

Trouble/issues follow Cal wherever he goes, yet he never knows anything about anything. To me, that's at least suspicious.

Wait a minute... so Marcus Camby was a dumbass that took money from an agent, and Derrick Rose was a dumbass who let someone else take his tests and it looks suspicious on Cal.

Now on the flip side (and I am not saying this is you, but it seems to be a common sentiment), it's always the players' faults and Bruce Pearl gets a pass anytime they do anything retarded.

That, my friends, is a double standard.

I think that the issues surrounding Rose, Dozier, the since-invalidated Laurinburg Institute, and Camby, along with his reputation for being shady, combine to make it all look suspicious on Cal.

I don't see what any of that has to do with Bruce's discipline - something the UT program could definitely stand to have more of.

Ramar Smith miraculously qualified... the point is, people don't like him because they are scared of Kentucky now. However, the NCAA has yet to find him guilty of any wrongdoing, which is good enough for me.

And, like it or not, anyone who came out of Laurinburg qualified under NCAA rules at the time. Just because they don't now doesn't make that any less true.

It doesn't really matter anyways, Pandemonium was saying something about Cal paying players, an allegation for which he has absolutely no backing.

In the wake of the Selby decommit announcement,
"CBSSports.com spoke to Pearl by phone. When asked about the possibility of rivals using his absence on the recruiting trail against him, Pearl responded, "It happens, and it's just the way it is. It's part of it."

I wouldn't exactly call that an emotional response to the defection of his star recruit.

At least if Bruce were in-country, maybe he could have attempted a little damage control before the forces of darkness (Nike, Calipari, et al) could make him an offer he can't refuse.

Bruce made that comment before Selby decommitted. Maybe Bruce being in country would have made a difference; maybe not. But, he didn't say that after getting the news.

He was cleared in the Camby case. But being cleared doesn't mean he didn't have anything to do with it.

You are right, it doesn't. It doesn't mean he did have anything to do with it either. Seriously, you think Cal is stupid enough to put players in contact with agents and sit by why they get paid?
