Looks like the left was successful in taking down a 3 term Senator in their own Primary. Hard to believe that in the space of 6 years, a guy can go from VP candidate to not even being able to win a Senate Primary.

I'm not sure whether this is a positive or a negative for the Democrats.

Best news for the GOP in the past year. This frees Lieberman up to run as VP for whoever gets the GOP Presidential nod in 2008.

Lieberman just conceded the primary but positioned himself as the ultimate everyman independent. Probably the most energetic I've ever seen him.

I don't think it's going to be quite that easy. The Lieberman/Lamont saga is going to run all the way to November and there are some Democrats who are now boxed into some uncomfortable positions.

Here's all you need to know about Ned Lamont. He gave his victory speech with Jesse Jackson over one shoulder and Al Sharpton over the other.

What can I say, I watched a rerun of Mad Max the other night and when it was over, I just didn't like Lieberman anymore.

I'm not sure to laugh or scratch my head.

Considering how BLUE CT is, I don't see Lieberman getting much support from an independent run. The Dem Party is strong up there and he'll have to run with out of state money. The only hope he has is that the GOP sacrifices their guy and pours everything into Liberman to pick the seat up. Dems up there will stick with Lamont especially with control of the Senate being on the line. Even all of Joe's Dem friends will sacrifice him for the 'greater good'.

I think you're probably right, but it sure will be fun watching Lieberman pop up every once in awhile with a soundbite.

Brilliant move by the Democrats on a national level. When trying to convince the public at large that you aren't a party of left wing nut cases, toss out one of the most respected moderate voices in your ranks. Another example of why the Democrats are in the shape they are.

That's my thinking as well. This would be like the GOP running somebody against John McCain.

I'm just wondering if this is the way he wants to go out. He'll be pushed to go negative, if not publicly, he will do so behind the scenes. He'll have to create a grassroots network all over without party money and party resources. Does he want to go out on such a negative note or will he be Gore of 2006 and fight at the cost of his own reputation?

If the Dems take the high ground and try to win over the Liberman people, then Lamont keeps the seat blue. If the bloggers and grassroots begins attacking Lieberman and making him look bad, then you'll see the mercy vote for Lieberman's legacy.

Just about sums it up.

Well if Lamont wins in November then it is a huge defeat for the GOP in the Senate. There went a moderate that often sided with the GOP on many votes. This puts a consistent D vote in the Senate and could actually solidify the Senate should it change hands.

Might as well laugh since that was my intention.

Lieberman's record in the Senate in an honorable one. I didn't start to dislike him when he made out with Bush. I didn't start to dislike him when he threw his support to the war in Iraq. I started to dislike him when he started supporting Bush's handling of the war in Iraq.

I think this is more about the Democrats eating one of their own than Lieberman. You just don't usually see 3 term Senators getting beaten in a Primary.

Lieberman's anti-videogame crusades annoyed the hell out of me. Maybe Lamont will be more concerned with the real violence in Iraq, not Vice City.
