Down goes Wake.

Nice to see Seth Greenberg finally close one of those out. Lord knows they've lost enough games against quality opponents in the final seconds the last few seasons.

I wasn't sure he was ever going to close one out.

Exactly what I was thinking after they won. His kids always play hard and run into some tough luck.

Also, did anyone catch the end of the game? Teague passed up a lot of shots. I figured he'd try to carry the load at the end and did not. It was very surprising.

The Hokies are experienced in knocking off newly ranked #1 teams. I the '85 season the rankings came out in the middle of the season on a Monday and Memphis was #1. That same night VT beat them. The Tigers were #1 for about 6 hours before they lost. Dell Curry was on that team.

I agree. I just mentioned the same thing in another thread. Teague just checked out at the end. Also, what was with the crowd? When VT took that 4 point lead with 1:00+, the building just died. Weird, b/c there was plenty of time.

Looks like my Dukies are number one.....but they do have to play Wake in the next week. That will be a good game

Congrats to Duke on their first #1 ranking since 2006. I actually think Duke would've been in a better position if Wake was ranked #1 when they played. Now, I'm not so sure. Either way, it should be a good game.

Duke will not be 1 unless they get past Maryland saturday afternoon at Cameron. And Maryland always brings it against us.

It seems like Duke always does good during the season but when it comes down to when it matters I dont even think they have made the sweet 16 in a few years. I think Maryland will give Duke a loss then Wake will do the same. Then the Tarheels can win out & get that back to back ACC season title. Wayne Ellington is really starting to heat up which is always a good thing with Ginyard out & Danny Green having to start.:D

I don't expect Maryland to beat Duke today b/c it's January. If it was March, I'd say yes.

Not sure if Duke flames out early again this year, but history suggests they will. They've only made it past the Sweet 16 ONCE since 2001 and that includes FOUR #1 seeds. They haven't made it past the 2nd round since 2006.

I've gathered from your posts that you are a UNC fan. If you actually take the time to watch Duke, this is the first team since the '01 Championship team that plays solid defense, rebounds extremely well, and can find alternate means of scoring outside the three, which they still shoot quite well. I would even venture to call Duke's defense one of the best in the country.

I think this Duke team looks very good, this team plays better D. vs. last years team. To me they just look and play like a better team overall vs. last years team. They play @ Wake on the 28th. and that game should be a good one.

And still, they'll be handed the bus ticket after the 2nd round of the NCAA tourney.

as evidenced by what? Last year?

Well then, let's go ahead and write off Tennessee's chances of ever going further.

Also, do we need to bring up all the times Roy has failed miserably to get his team where they belong?

No one (with a good basketball IQ) has considered Duke a legit threat in March the past few years, they've just been given high seeds because they are Duke and they still manage to win more than they should in the regular season.

I think Duke is playing better than anyone in the country right now. They deserve their #1 ranking and might even deserve a #1 seed. (Did they deserve a #2 last year?) I still predict they will underachieve in post-season play just like they have every single year since 2001.

This year's Duke team is going to lose at least 3 more games heading down the stretch before the NCAA's. The first will be against Wake on Wednesday night.

so they are playing better than anyone in the country yet they will lose Wednesday and two more times? Interesting philosophy.

1a. That, and the last few years.

1b. I think, at this point, that would be a good bet to make.

2. He's got a national championship in the last 5 years.

3. I'd say I'd agree with you on that.

1a.- Yes, because previous teams with different chemistry shows what will happen this year. Let's just go ahead and cancel the rest of this season because obviously Kansas will win it all with a thriller over Memphis.

1b. Ever. Tennessee will never make the Elite Eight. Ever.

2. With a team that was 95% someone else's. How many titles should he have at KU?

1a. Hey, history tends to repeat itself. Not saying it will this year, just saying, the precedent is there.

1b. I mean this year, although, I can't say I see Tennessee making the Elite 8 in the next few years.

2. I'd say one or two. But I would say that there's nothing wrong with winning a title with someone else's players.

Yes, they're playing better than anyone else in the country, but it's about matchups. Duke matches up well with certain teams (see Purdue), and not so well with others (see Wake & UNC). I don't think I'm going out a limb suggesting that Duke will lose 3 more games before the NCAA's.
