Marcus Lattimore was a big reason for South Carolina's success last season. The running back torched opposing defenses for 1,197 yards and 17 touchdowns as a freshman. But could a sophomore slump be on the horizon? Bank on it says AL.com.

According to This story, nine players in conference history have rushed for 1,000 yards as freshmen. And out of the nine, only two rushed for more than 1,000 as sophomores. Ans there are some more dubious numbers according to the story.

"Four of the players never had another 1,000-yard season, and three of them didn't rush for as many yards in the rest of their collegiate careers as they had as freshmen
," it said.

Could Lattimore be an exception to this rule? Probably, but those are some tough numbers.

I found that surprising

I don't see why he couldn't. He had a few games that he carried the ball 30-40 times. Most backs (on good teams) don't get that opportunity.

His junior year with no Alshon Jeffery is going to be a lot rougher than this year.

Barring a serious injury, he'll have another fantastic year

Id lean this way. Short of injury he'll be the best back in the SEC this yr. IMO

They need to find a way to lighten his load a bit. Cam Newton was the only SEC player with more carries than Lattimore last year. He can't sustain that kind of work load for his career at South Carolina.

I would line up and dare Garcia to beat me week in and week out. The guy has two good games per season and the rest range from weak to flat out awful. Lattimore can beat you every week if you play them straight up or fear the passing game.

I think the same way. He isn't going to last very long in the sec carrying the majority of the load. I would almost bet he doesn't run wild like he did last year on people. I think most teams knew he was going to be good but didn't see him as a major threat. This year DC's are going to gun for him.

also depends on the health and skill of the O line. not sure what they have lost or gained on the line, for this year.

this might be the reason that he doesnt make it to 1000.

He'll get a lot more attention this year. I'd make Garcia beat me if i were opposing D-coordinators.

Barring injury, I would feel much safer betting on Lattimore than against him.

I thought he had way more yards than he did. He was still impressive though. All defenses will be keying in on him this year, like they were most of last year. I think he still gets more yards this year, than last. Jeffrey will make sure of that by keeping defenses honest.

He'll get more attention but the QB(whoever ends up starting) has some good recievers to throw to. I don't think he'll score as many TD's maybe but his yardage will the same or higher IMO
