In the mid to late 90s, we were one of the top 5 programs in the nation: 1 national championship, 2 BCS bowls, 2 SEC championships, top 10 ranking every year and we beat Georgia and Alabama every year.
1995: 11-1 35.9 points per game; lost to FL
1996: 10-2 36.4 points per game; lost to FL
1997: 11-2 32.9 points per game; lost to FL
1998: 13-0 33.1 points per game
1999: 9-3 30.8 points per game; lost to FL
Since then... no national championships, BCS bowl games or conference championships, and we have lost to Georgia regularly and Alabama occassionally.
2000: 8-4 31.6 points per game; lost to FL, GA
2001: 11-2 30.8 points per game; lost to GA
2002: 8-5 22.8 points per game; lost to FL, GA, AL
2003: 10-3 28.1 points per game; lost to GA
2004: 10-3 29.1 points per game;
2005: 3-3 16.3 points per game; lost to FL, GA, AL
Granted, 2002 we had serious injury problems and a lack of team chemistry, largely thanks to Kelly Washington. 2004 was the aberration, Fulmer's best coaching year and a diamond in the rough over the past half decade.
I didn't add in the early 90's info, but that time period was superior to the early 00's as well. We didn't have quite as strong of a defense, but our special teams were largely solid and the offense scored some crazy points.
Anyone see a trend here? The pertinent question is then, what's going to be done about it?
