Would anyone be interested in doing a mock draft simulation?

Rules:
Full draft simulation (Rounds 1-7)
Trading allowed (Only current year picks, no future picks.)
24 hours dead line for each pick.

I saw this on another site and thought it might be fun to try. If there is some interest I'll start a sign up thread.

Not enough time for 24 hrs per pick. I'd do it for Carolina, though.

I'm not sure there's enough time for one round with the general activity of this forum.

Just my opinion, but I think the Vikings would be better off with Morris Claiborne at 3. Their secondary is atrocious and they have to face Rodgers, Stafford, and Cutler two times apiece every year. Of course, then you could say they face Clay Matthews, Julius Peppers, and Cliff Avril twice each, as well, but their best CB is 35.

Claiborne at 3, I think.

Rams take Justin Blackmon

Now there would be a trade as the Jags try to trade down and out of the 7 spot

Hard to predict the Jags. They need more on offense than they do on defense. Would they go Michael Floyd here or Ingram/Coples/Fletcher Cox?

Who would want to jump up here with a trade?

They wouldn't take Floyd here; it'd be much too high for him.

They're a hard read in a difficult spot. Their ideal want, really, is that somehow Justin Blackmon can fall down to them.

Other than that happening though, I have to think they would go defense here if they have to pick...maybe one of the DEs.

They're basically stuck in a bit of a rift here with a big dropoff in the type of (expected) first round talent. As soon as Blackmon is taken at 6 (which the Rams would be silly not to do), I expect them to be calling other teams looking to trade down. I don't know who would trade up though.


They could well just be forced to take the pick

Though I get what you mean, I'm not sure I agree in this case. If Floyd is the highest guy on their board (not saying he is), it wouldn't make any sense to pass on him and risk him being drafted elsewhere. The Jags had a similar situation with Alualu in 2010, where everyone moaned and groaned and said he was a "reach", but turns out they were probably right in their assessment of the guy and there were other teams that had him rated as a 1st round pick, as well, including the Cowboys. I do believe in the concept of "reaching" (ie former Titans 2nd rounder Chris Henry), but taking Floyd at 7 isn't a reach if he's rated a 1st round pick and the team has a conviction in him.

If there are no teams willing to give the Jags what they're willing to take in order to trade down, Floyd almost definitely wouldn't be there in the 2nd round if they passed on him at 7, so that's not a reach in my book. If you believe in a player, why risk it?

That said, I don't know if they believe in him or not. I do know they need help for Gabbert and MJD. They haven't had a decent WR since the Jimmy Smith/Keenan McCardell days.

I hate mock drafts because it's hard to differentiate who I think they should take, and who they will take.

I'd take Ingram if I was the Jags. I don't see them doing that though.

edit: A better example would be that I wouldn't consider Richardson if I were the Browns. The best example people point to is Adrian Peterson, and the Vikings are no better today than they were when they drafted him. RBs have short careers, and the Browns are quite a few away from competing. Look at the players taken the same year as Peterson: Revis, Willis, Megatron...most are in the thick of their peak, Peterson is almost done, and they have two successful seasons to show for it.

McShay is now saying he thinks the Vikings take Claiborn.
I don't think I believe this. Sounds like just a stretch to create drama right before the draft.

I think they should take Claiborne, but I'm nobody. Seems like they want out of that spot, though.

@AdamSchefter Here we go: Vikes GM Rick Spielman said trade talk at No. 3 is "heating up....There is enough that there is a potential for a trade."

I think Claiborne is a great prospect, I just don't think there's any way he's #3 worthy. He's not even the best CB in this draft. He's just got far less character issues than the guy who is the best.

Also, interesting to note the following tweet regarding Michael Floyd from Albert Breer, though you should take all info leading up to the draft with a grain of salt:

@AlbertBreer Interesting making calls around tonite ... 1 that fascinated me: Exec told me he thinks a number of clubs have Floyd graded above Blackmon.

I agree, I think Claiborne will be a stud. Plus in this pass happy NFL today you need a stud CB.

Since there are going to be all sorts of rumors the day before the draft:


ones now about the Jets trading up to 3rd,4th, or 5th to get Trent Richardson


though the GM says "no current plans to trade up"...rumor's going based on his past history and the Jets checking with richardson regarding his contact information
