Drayton Back to Florida

DRAYTON BACK ON THE STAFF: Stan Drayton left the Florida staff after the 2007 season on not so great terms but those issues have been cleared up and he’s back on the staff, replacing Kenny Carter, who will join Charlie Strong in Louisville as the running backs coach. I think Urban Meyer was smart to move quickly to replace Carter and the re-hire of Drayton makes sense since he can hit the ground running on the recruiting trail. He already knows the coaches in the state of Florida so there won’t be any transition. That’s critical as recruiting hits the final stretch. As it stands, Florida doesn’t have many spots to fill in this class and the real test might be keeping the ones who are already committed. Hiring Drayton should help the Gators keep the recruits calm.

hard to believe this happened after the way he left. Im guessing you can forget Mack Brown now.

IS EVERETT WITHERS THE HOME RUN HIRE?: He’s the defensive coordinator at North Carolina right now. Just a guess on my part, but I believe the Gators will either go against his defense next year or else he will be plotting Florida’s defense. Georgia wants him badly but my friends in Chapel Hill seem to think he’s going to be the new defensive coordinator at Florida. He’s an experienced coordinator and he has five years of NFL experience with the Tennessee Titans. Carolina’s 2009 defense is ranked sixth.

would be a huge splash for either UF or UGA and would hurt us in recruiting

Well, this makes sense if we are to believe the chatter coming out of Gainesville.

The appeal for Drayton's at UT was the type of offense Tennessee was going to run. (Not the spread, which isn't exactly running-back friendly.) And now, Drayton gets his old job back? Sounds like Florida is going to make an offensive change.

"After telling the Nashville Tennessean that Florida is not a place a good running back would want to go, he (Drayton) followed with: "If you’re going to be a running backs coach, you want to be part of a system that involves the running back.""

Drayton said that shortly after being hired by Tennessee in 2008.

We didn't have any capable RB's when Drayton was hear, unless you count Percy or Tim as a RB.
