he same can be said Thornton, who adds those qualities to his 315-pound frame, Bay coach Mike Healey said. The 6-4 senior played defensive end and fullback for the Tornadoes this season, providing both sides of the ball with what Healey called, “a dominant player that every coach wants.”
Thornton averaged 7 yards per carry for Bay this season, finishing with 612 yards and seven touchdowns. He also had 49 tackles while receiving extra attention from opposing offensive linemen.
Healey said Sullivan told him that Thornton would see time on both sides of the ball in Lakeland.
“He’s a very gifted athlete, has a good vertical jump and he was timed at a 4.82 on the track,” Healey said. “He’s a tough kid. We actually have game film of him running over all 11 members of the defense.
“He’s an impact player and we’re all excited he has this opportunity to play in this very prestigious game.”
