Haven't posted on here in a while, great to be back.

My question is that all of the depth charts I've seen has Couch as McCullers back up and Hood starting at the other DT spot with O'brien backing him up.

I just assumed that Couch and McCullers would be the starters, is there something in Jancek scheme that utilizes a smaller DT opposite McCullers?

Also, if Couch and McCullers are the starters, I believe it will be the best tandem since Haynesworth and Henderson. LB's should have a great year.

Id say its listed that way because Mccullers will prob come out in 3rd and long and such. It will prob be Mccullers and Couch, then Mccullers comes out, Couch slides over and Hood takes the other DT spot. But we possibly will be rotating a lot to kewp people fresh

Ok, makes sense. Thanks for the input.

I am so excited for this season to start. The game is won and lost in the trenches and I'm not sure who has a better group on either side of the ball than we do.

GO VOLS!!!

Can't get anything working today.
It's hopeless.

I give up.

I think McCullers and Couch have some potential but are far from proven commodities. Last year's debacle probably did not permit them to demonstrate how good they are but no one on defense, aside from AJ, looked very good last year. I think I would still prefer the Demonte Bolden and Dan Williams combination over McCullers and Couch as of now and that duo was more recent than Haynesworth and Henderson.

This. I'd say in CBJ's system, depth charts are pretty meaningless because I suspect he's going to play a lot people and want as many fresh bodies as possible.

Couch wasn't really able to participate in the spring. He's basically in the same boat as Maggitt in that the coaches hadn't seen much from him. He'll likely be the other starter. However, Hood has impressed the coaches and will play plenty.

Don't be surprise to see Jason Carr getting a look at in the DT position.

Don't believe the two who start will be all that Important we'll end up playing a number of different players and different combination at different times. I know everyone wants to be named starters but this team will need everyone to play like starters.

I want a D-Line like LSU had for a few years where they were damm good 3 deep in every position. Plus it didn't seem to affect the individual players draft status.

:good!:

I'm right there with you buddy! If we're known as Wide Receiver-U, LSU should be known as Defensive Line-U. I wish we could recruit DL's with the success LSU has had!

I'm confident in all of these guy's potential. Hood is a great run stopping presence as is Big Mac. I also think Couch will have a monster year and O'brien has plenty of ability. I think that we have 4 quality DT's that can all make significant impacts for us. Good to see the depth finally starting to come back to the position. GO VOLS!!

I remember in most of last year's games whenever McCullers came out and Hood came in, they got gutted up the middle (see the Ms St. game). Couch and McCullers will be a more formidable tackle combo in the 4-3.
