Ok, who can explain this term? Is just some random rumblings of drunk bit@@? Or, can anyone make sense of it?

There is a duality of democracy. Pure democracy can be just as tyrannical as any dictatorship.

Seems really weird that I can Google "duality of democracy" and find several media sources making hay of this and now we have a whole thread about it.

Duality means it's got 2 sides to it. It's two things at once. We are both a strong nation and a fragile nation. We're a democracy and the biggest power on the planet but there is also lots of concern all around about how close we are to becoming a banana republic.

She didn't tie these ideas together this well in her speech, but there is nothing confusing at all about saying the duality of democracy explaining that it's both strong and fragile. Just look up the definitions and then put them together. ;)

There is nothing confusing about just saying a vague phrase, and relying on others to fill in the important context for you?

we have straight up idiots running for president, and people are twisting themselves into pretzels to defend every dumb phrase.

What are you confused about? You really didn't understand that she's saying our democracy is both strong and fragile?

She sucks, I just don't understand why this is such a big deal. VN's been starting threads about little gaffes as long as I've been here. They're all pretty stupid, but this one takes the cake.

I know you're not defending her, and I'm not going at you..... I think the OP would have been better served to say Harris is a horrible communicator, she struggles to drive home ideas and get her point across effectively in speeches.

She is confusing and hard to follow though. But the idea of duality isn't.

not confused. I just don't think its clear.

she spends half of that quote indirectly talking about how bad Trump is and how he doesn't represent strength, because those who talk bad about others are cowards. And even though she is taking part in that exact same strategy of attacking others, Trump, and not building people up, she claims to represent strength. even though the very acts she just claimed weren't a sign of strength.

its inconsistent within not even 2 minutes. and relies on people only assuming the context of the coward is Trump, and not her acts of calling out Trump. because first time I read it, I was thinking "nice self burn".

maybe I am weird, but I have never really been able to follow her thought streams too well.
