Was Dunbar on the bench with the team today against Austin Peay? Anything new about his status? Thought I heard something about him dealing with a personal matter as to why he’d been out a while.

Yes he is still around the team. His return to the floor is still uncertain.
I'd imagine it's going to be tough for him to make a dent in the lineup at this point. Perhaps a redshirt is on the table for him. A year to get acclimated to the system, get himself mentally in a good space, and a lot of playing time opening up next season with 5 other seniors graduating, including 4 starters and the current 6th man.

I think he'll probably play some in the upcoming games, especially with JP out. He was dressed to play last night, probably just has to get back to game fitness/get back to grips with the plays.

I'm not sure JP being out really affects his playing time, though. They don't play the same position. And even if JP being out necessitates Cade playing some 5, I am still not sure that Igor and Mashack don't just absorb any additional minutes that are opened up at the 4.

Playing limited spot minutes in a few non-con games is not what DD signed up for, so I'd imagine even at his own request, a redshirt is probably on the table. I just have a hard time seeing him accepting that role in his final year of eligibility if he really believes he can contribute if not for all of the distractions he dealt with in the fall.

Dubar will get his first playing time for the Vols over in the Bahamas …

This is his 5th year and basically his covid year so wouldn't he have to take a medical meaning he'd have to justify a season-ending injury? Not sure how that works. He played 16 or more games 4 years In a row. If he has NBA aspirations its pretty much now or never unless he has a DK type season. If he stays another years he'd be entering his draft year going on 25. Thats a huge deal in the NBA. I feel like they will work him in and find his role... Lanier and Gainey haven't looked bad but Dubar would give the team some much needed depth and flexibility at the 2-4 this year

The 2020-21 season didn't count against his eligibility, did it, because of Covid?

If so, then he has exhausted 3 years of eligibility, all at Hofstra, and could redshirt this year, and take his 4th year of eligibility next year at Tennessee, or any other school.

Devo Davis is another example. He was a freshman in 2020-21, same as Dubar. He is playing his 5th year of college basketball (4 at Arky, this year at Ok St). I'd imagine if he redshirted this season (which he's not), that he'd be eligible for another year, next season.

I believe this is correct.

Tess Darby played in 20-21 and is playing this year.

From the interwebs: Darby is using her COVID year of eligibility to play her final college season.

He is the JJJ type of player this rotation is missing unless the light comes on for Carr?
What does he give us that Jahmai Mashack doesn't give us besides 2"?

If we go small with an undersized 4 (which is what Dubar is), why wouldn't we go ZZ, Gainey, Lanier, Mashack, Okpara?

I think that lineup is very unlikely to be seen very often because it takes potentially out best offensive player off the floor in Milicic.

I tihnk him and Mashack are very different players not really comparable. 1 Mashack is a starter. I don't see Dubar starting outside of some small-ball matchups. Mashack is defense and his offense is starting to show some evolution. Dubar is more of an offensive player we have heard might be good on D. But yes the positional versatility. Dubar can play 2-4 in this system Mashack is more 3-4. Note everything with Dubar is projections...we don't know what he is until we see him in the orange and white. That being said he has enough of a resume to say he can more than likely contribute. Hostra plays a pretty decent OOC schedule every year so its not like he has never played against high level competition.

The COVID year gives players a 6 year window to play 4 seasons instead of the usual 5 years. Plus 2020-21 doesn’t count as one of the 4 no matter how many games were played in - so 5 full seasons were available.

I’m not sure how the grad transfer option fits into the scenarios. Maybe it only allows transfers to play immediately instead of sitting out a year. In which case it’s obsolete since regular transfers no longer are required to sit out a year.

A medical hardship waiver provides for a year not counting if the participation limits haven’t been exceeded. Only playing in the first 50% of the season and no more than 30% of games.

Not sure I see that given our current state, have a feeling he’s about to be relied upon as a contributor.

With Estrella out Milicic will likely be forced to play some 5, like he did yesterday…with Carr also expected to miss some time we are effectively down to 9 scholarship players and Boswell is a guard. Either we will be playing 7 guys nearly 30 minutes a game or Dubar will have to start contributing.

have we confirmed that Carr has a more serious injury?

Considering Dubar didn’t play against AP I worry he won’t play this year.
