You might thing I am crazy, opinions vary, but I would take Holly any day over the underachieving Joanne McCallie. This coach not only has five stars, but tall five stars. They were outplayed and out coached by a mid-major program and coach. There should have been no doubt as to who was the best team, however, on this day the best team lost.

Has anyone connected to the coaching ranks heard if Duke is going to let her go at the end of the season? I have some minor connections to two assistants in the SEC and there appears to be some smoke around that one.

If Duke fires her they need to hire Mitchell of Kentucky.

whoever they get they cannot be worse than she has been..... can't think of any other coach who has done less with more

Obviously a top recruiter for the last 4 years. May be a top recruiter who needs good assistants to win. That happens sometimes in the men's game. However, to get it done, you need to know your weaknesses. She appears to be clueless. She also likes to throw her players under the bus.

Duke made it plain when they let Goestenkoers walk that they did not care much about women's basketball. Maybe that has changed, I don't know. McCallie can bring in top recruits, that's for sure.

Franklin Pierce and LV Jeff you both bring up good points...... Mitchell staying at KY.... it seems to make sense and all i can think of is Urban Meyer at Utah.... on the move.... and Notre Dame, that school with all the panache, figured they had him in the bag.... but the Florida commitment and/or overall situation was better..... believe it or not.....and LV Jeff.. u no more about Duke's commit to WCBB then I do probably.... they do indeed get the recruits.... but is the athletic dept commmited as it is to Coach K? Dunno.... Anyone who is in line for that job at Dook when they are ready to make a move must find out their level of commitment.... because the groundwork is there for something very good..... they just have not done it well at all in any phase but recruiting it seems

My understanding is the issue is not results related, but standards of professional behavior.

I interpret this to mean McCallie's behavior (not Goestenkoers). Wow. I knew McCallie has been over the top with her critical comments on her team's play, but I didn't realize her job was in jeopardy.

Do you think Mitchell(the UK Coach) would take the Duke job if offered?

Unless he has family or roots in the Durham area, I can't see him taking the Duke job IMO. It's a plum job obviously, but Kentucky is in other ways also a plum job and I don't think Duke pays him what Kentucky is paying him. All my opinion based on nothing other than gut feeling.

One thing else - Lexington is far more beautiful than Durham. If you go by scenic beauty nobody would ever pick Duke over Kentucky.

The five star loaded lineup should have lost. A boost from the Refs and a lucky three put them barely over. Probably the worst coached team in WCBB.

While there are things to like about UK I think there's a whole lot more to like about Duke at least from a women's basketball perspective for a couple of reasons. 1) Facilities are better--Memorial is a dump; Cameron is immaculate. 2) Academics--this should be self explanatory. It matters a lot more with recruiting in non men's basketball and football. 3) from a historical perspective Duke getting to the top of the ACC will be much easier than getting UK to the top of the SEC--largely due to the space occupied by Tennessee. He's been there 7 years and only has one SEC reg season.
