I heard Spurrier is a favorite for that job. He was even looking at land near Falls Lake.

I don't think he'd go back to Duke. I guess there is the chance that he may make another move but at his age I think he may well be at his last stop as a hfc. It's interesting to look at a Duke board where they are throwing out candidates such as the head coaches at Richmond and Elon. Paul Johnson seems to be their dream coach, but I also see that many Dukies think GaTech will come after Johnson with big $$$. Seeing as how this is a NC job (one area where Cutcliffe is supposed to have strong recruting connections) I'd be concerned about them coming after Cut, but I am not sure that the Duke program meets Cut's stated criteria of only coaching somewhere that he thinks he can compete for championships.

I figured as much. Just trying to keep this thread going until someone who knows something about Duke football happens by.

VH, the problem lies within the fact that Duke continues to show little interest in putting in the money to turn the program around. The best bets for a job at Duke is a middle of the road D1-AA or D2 coach looking to upgrade. or possibly an average OC or DC looking to jump at the chance just to have the HC ranking. I can't see it being any name that will make a major splash. Duke is content in the success of their other programs

If they are content, then why fire the current hfc? I thought staff stability and a sense of family was the be all/end all to attracting quality recruits.

perhaps i used the wrong words. They are content at spending money to ensure the success of their other programs, but aren't willing to throw the cash out to improve the facilities and coaching staffs of their football teams. They are simply hoping to find another 1 in a million Steve Spurrier. Fortunately, the law of averages says they might be getting close.

I feel sorry for whoever get's that job. Have you ever been to a Duke football game?? I unfortunately have, and that place is a TOMB!

Duke has been to a bowl game more recently than Vandy. I think whoever coaches there has to start out building towards a 7-win season four years out. They also need to quit scheduling OOC games with the likes of Notre Dame.

LOL- there's no way Darth Visor goes back to Duke. I don't care how good the golfing is there!
