Tailgating. Thats right, someone has banned tailgating. Now general knowledge tells us that anyone who takes the time to tailgate for the debacle that is Duke football is probably not smart enough to be a student there. However, it seems as though it does occur.

A 14-year old was found passed out drunk in a port-a-potty before a football game at Duke University, pushing the school to permanently cancel student tailgating late Monday.
The unidentified male, who is the brother of a Duke undergraduate, was rushed to the hospital on the school's campus in Durham, N.C., on Nov. 6, and later recovered.

That was not enough for university administrators, however, who called the drunken partying prior to football games unacceptable. The school's football team is 3-6 this season, a slight improvement after nearly a decade of putrid performances.

In an email to the student body about the incident, Duke vice president of student affairs Larry Moneta called tailgating "increasingly dangerous in every iteration."

He referred to the passed-out individual as "a teenage youth." Two campus sources familiar with the situation told NewsCore the boy was 14 years old.

"Tailgate has become an embarrassment -- it has no connection to our football team," Moneta told The Chronicle, the student newspaper. "Now it has to end. I think the notion that a young teenager could be discovered under these conditions just crosses the line."Duke has long tried to cull the tradition, which can begin as early as 4 hours before noon football games. Only of-age students can transport alcohol into the parking lots, though younger students may attend and imbibe what they do not bring.

That's just stop the tailgating on campus. UCF went hardcore for a while after the cop got shot a couple years back and are back to a free for all once again.

Duke didn't ban tailgating as a whole just this one specifice tailgate. Apparently there is a university sponsored student tailgate where they regulate the amount of alcohol students can bring to the party and they decided to cancel it. Believe it or not tailgating at Duke is the one thing it has going for it, mostly because you can leave at halftime and come back in. Either way it's embarrassing in the PR department, it's not like Duke's reputation isn't bad enough already.

I haven't been down to West End during a game this year, did they drop "Vandy Village" or whatever it was called where they had the jumbotron up showing games?

I seem to remember the "no tg'ing area" to be near or around churches/houses. Not sure where that's @, but the pressure was coming from the churches/homeowners iirc.

As for the OP:
Who brings their 14 yo brother to tailgate? Who gives their 14 yo brother alcohol? And who allows their 14 yo brother to become so intoxicated that he passes out, THEN, a stranger has to find him!?! BROTHER FAILURE!! Big bro needs to get his stuff together. Mom and Dad, don't let him go with John Michael any more, ya hear?

Weak. See, this is what is wrong with America. 14 Year olds should be able to hold their liquor. How the hell else can we
compete with Russia?

Yeah Vandy sucked all the fun out of the "experience" there. "The neighbors dont like the drinking."

Well, get over it..My lord, what 7 or 8 times a year on a Saturday is too much to handle for the snot noses?

I needed all the alcohol available to me to watch Cutty-ball in 2006 and 2007. I don't blame Duke fans at all.
