Duke's Dawkins to take Stanford Job.

hmmm. Big move for Dawkins. He was widely considered K's replacement whenever that day came. You have to wonder if Duke will use this as his personal test to see if he can be a HC.

Also, Duke's recruiting will suffer. Duke should also worry about Nolan Smith. Smith went to Duke solely because of Dawkins. Will Smith sit out a year just to transfer somewhere else?

I don't think Smith goes anywhere. I think he knows whats going on.

Great hire for Stanford though. I expect to see him back at Duke when K retires though.

Good for him...he needed to get out and get some experience before taking over the Dook job someday.

Bill...I really dont think this will hurt Dooks recruiting...they will continue to get plenty of burger boys.

That and Dawkins never really got out on the recruiting trail anyways. He liked just chilling in North Carolina.

And you should use spellcheck. :eek:k:

I hate Henderson didn't make it...his top Asst. coach was my old High School coach..Billy Martin.
I've kind of lost track of Henderson. If he's still interested in coaching, he would seem to be a natural fit to replace Dawkins.

Nope I just think it's a bold hire. Dawkins is a class act and I think he'll do fine until it's time to come home.

Wow, that is eerily similar to Roy.... Except Roy couldn't ball like JD.

I've actually heard from a couple of people at Duke that Nate James is a possiblily. He was just brought in as the strength and conditioning coach and the guys already love him, so you never know.

I also think he would make a great recruiter.

What's bold about it? Bowlsby can cloak himself in the "He understands our academic standards" and "Everyone assumes he'll be a great head coach" cannards. This hire takes exactly zero fortitiude. Mike Dunlap? Eric Musselman? Those are examples of what would have been bold hires by Stanford.

The hire looks good all the way around for Stanford...a minority takes a minority's job...like you mentioned he understands the academics...he's a notable name from a top program ...etc. Whether he works out we'll just have to wait and see.

All of those reasons are why there's nothing remotely "bold" about the hiring.

Just because you say it, doesn't mean I have to think it's right.
True. However, when you make an assertion with absolutely nothing to back it up, expect to be called on it. How much heat did Michigan's AD and president take for bringing in Amaker, despite the fact he had proven to be thoroughly incapable of handling life in a top notch league by mismanaging an aresenal of elite talent at Seton Hall? None, because the Dukecentric media thinks all Duke assistants should become head coaches whenever they want. When's the last time somebody did a column mentioning that two of Pious K's star pupils, Snyder and Amaker, are flat out, slimeball cheaters?
There's nothing gutsy about hiring a Duke guy. The media will praise you regardless of results.

I'd love nothing more than to see Nate succeed he was always a favorite of mine back in his playing days

I'd like to see it work out, but I don't see him being a great hire. He's my favorite Duke player, but I think he's about to be overmatched. Recruiting might keep him afloat.

What about Jay Williams?

Dawkins works his butt with the in house recruiting and it's been no secret that his insight as a former player much moreso than Wojo or Collins is one of the favorite aspects recruits and Duke players have for Dawkins. It will hurt recruiting.

It remains to be seen what Smith will do. His relationship with Dawkins is "what's up".

Nolan also is very close with Coach K.

And NC, I don't think Jay has ever been interested in coaching, but boy would that help with recruits.
